As recently as May 2025, Piotr was trying to figure out why his body had suddenly begun to weaken so rapidly. Loss of appetite, constant weakness, and rapid weight loss appeared suddenly and sapped his strength with each passing day. He lost 25 kilograms in a month. Today, his daily life looks completely different, as he spends most of his time in bed under the care of a home hospice, battling pain and an advancing cancer.
His body was wasting away day by day
The first symptoms appeared in May 2025. Piotr practically lost his appetite; he began experiencing fainting spells, sleep problems, and frequent trips to the bathroom. His body was becoming increasingly exhausted. Further testing revealed a devastating diagnosis: squamous cell carcinoma of the esophagus, mouth, and digestive tract. A very difficult battle for his life and the ability to continue functioning began.
Further treatments and the doctors' dramatic decision
In August 2025, Piotr required multiple esophageal bypass surgeries. He underwent as many as four such procedures because the disease was progressing very rapidly and impairing his basic vital functions.
Unfortunately, despite treatment, his health continued to deteriorate. He developed an esophageal perforation and right-sided pleural effusion. The disease also began to affect his vocal cords, causing a gradual loss of speech. The doctors made a very difficult decision, as it was determined that further surgical and systemic treatment was no longer an option. Piotr is currently receiving care at a home hospice.
Loneliness and the daily struggle with pain
Piotr’s daily life consists mainly of lying in bed, enduring pain, and feeling extremely weak. Even basic activities—sleeping, eating, or simply trying to get through another day—have become his greatest challenges. He is cared for by a nurse and a hospice doctor who visit him at home. His illness has robbed him of his independence, his ability to function normally, and his connection to the world.
His older sister is also going through a very difficult time; she watches helplessly as her brother suffers and tries to support him as best she can. Piotr has been certified as having a significant disability. He spends most of his time alone, trying to cope with pain, insomnia, and his progressive illness.
He'd like to have at least a little peace and quiet
Before his illness, Piotr was interested in music and film. Today, the most important thing is to provide him with as peaceful a living environment as possible and to ensure his basic comfort in daily life.
The funds raised will be used to cover the costs of medication, food, transportation, and other expenses, as well as to assist with daily activities such as shopping, cleaning, and personal hygiene. We ask for your support for Piotr. Every contribution will help ensure he has greater peace of mind, more dignified living conditions, and the necessary care during this extremely difficult time.
