Last fall, our son Szymon’s tummy started to look different than usual. The tests didn’t show anything wrong—the results were normal—and the doctors reassured us that everything looked fine.
Szymon lives with FAP, which is why he has always been under constant medical supervision. He had an ultrasound every six months. This time, too, everything looked normal.
At the end of May, everything started to change. Szymon began complaining of stomach pain. Further tests brought news that brought our world to a standstill: an 8-centimeter tumor was detected in our son’s abdomen, and it had already metastasized to his lungs.
Diagnosis and Chemotherapy
In the blink of an eye, we found ourselves at Przylądek Nadziei in Wrocław, where we heard the diagnosis we never wanted to hear: hepatoblastoma that had metastasized to the lungs.
Szymon has started chemotherapy. We watch over him every day, trying to stay strong and not let our fear show. If his body responds well to the treatment, we’ll face another important step in October: surgery to remove the tumor.
Family
Today, Szymon and I are at the hospital. The days pass by as we go from one test to the next, talk with doctors, and wait for more news. My husband visits us whenever he can, dividing his time between the hospital room and home.
In the midst of all this, there’s also Kacper, our second son, who also needs his parents, attention, and a sense of security. Fortunately, we’re not alone. His grandparents have been incredibly supportive, taking over our daily responsibilities and giving us the space we need to be where we’re needed most right now. We’re more grateful for their help than words can express.
Small Passions
In those moments when there are no tests or doctor’s appointments, Szymonek returns to his childhood world. He loves playing with tractors, animals, and dinosaurs the most. All it takes is a few toys for the hospital room to turn, if only for a moment, into a farm, a jungle, or a prehistoric land.
In these little moments, you can simply see a happy boy who, despite everything, is still able to smile and dream.
Help
Every day of the fight for Szymon’s health brings not only immense stress and uncertainty, but also rising medical costs. We are doing everything in our power to ensure he receives the best possible care.
Today, we are asking for your support with all our hearts. Every bit of help gives us hope that we’ll be able to focus on what matters most: our son’s health.
Thank you for all your help and for standing by us on this difficult journey.
