The future was at hand
Just a moment ago, Patrick was living a world that pulsed with youthful energy. A world full of plans and visions of adult life, to which the door was open wide and which was just waiting to be conquered.
A seemingly innocent change
A small lump appeared on his neck - just a trifle, which did not cause much concern. Maybe a lymph node, maybe a simple contusion, maybe a temporary inflammation... However, behind this innocent lesion lurked something much more dangerous. A visit to the orthopedist turned into a referral to the ED, followed by a series of tests that revealed the increasingly painful truth with each passing hour.
Finally came the devastating diagnosis: suspected lymphoma.
He wanted to grow up. He needs to survive.
Disease does not wait
Patrick is now in the "Cape of Hope" in Wroclaw. He faces further tests, intensive treatment and possible supportive therapies. Instead of planning for adulthood, he must learn to live in a world of hospital procedures and chemotherapy, which is very debilitating to the body. Although Patrick remains calm, fatigue can be seen in his eyes. Fortunately, there are always loved ones watching beside him, who know that this battle is not just fought in the hospital room. She also plays out outside of it - in the medical expenses incurred, the commute, and the life between home and the ward.
