A Diagnosis Hidden Behind Everyday Ailments

The first worrying symptoms appeared about three months before the diagnosis was made. Over time, they gradually worsened, and by the end of May they had become significantly more severe, which is why Pamela went to the emergency room. Further tests led to a difficult diagnosis: a malignant tumor of the lower colon.

The treatment that led to a relapse

Pamela underwent a full, grueling course of treatment: radiation therapy, preoperative chemotherapy, and, in November 2025, bowel resection with ostomy creation. After the surgery, she continued chemotherapy, although some cycles had to be interrupted due to her poor condition. Unfortunately, in the spring of 2026, tests revealed a local recurrence as well as metastases to the liver, lungs, and lymph nodes. At that point, systemic therapy and additional cycles of chemotherapy were initiated.

Hope in Modern Targeted Therapy

To find a more effective treatment, Pamela decided to have specialized genetic testing performed on her tumor abroad. The analysis revealed a specific mutation (BRAF) for which there is a targeted therapy that offers her the best chance of success. In Poland, this therapy is not covered by insurance, and its cost far exceeds Pamela’s means.

Everyday life, which requires tremendous strength

Her illness and treatment have had a profound impact on Pamela’s entire life. Due to severe pain, she takes painkillers and struggles with weakness, blood pressure issues, and difficulties eating and drinking. Living with a stoma and the change in how she perceives her own body are also very difficult, as Pamela makes no secret of the fact that her illness has robbed her of part of her sense of femininity. On top of that, she experiences panic attacks and anxiety, for which she is under psychiatric care. Through it all, her husband, parents, and friends—who take turns being by her side every day—are a tremendous source of support for her.

What Brings Joy Despite Everything

Pamela has loved books and music since she was a child, and she enjoys going to concerts by her favorite bands. She paints by numbers, crochets, and gets a lot of joy from Ziutek, the dog she and her husband adopted from a shelter. It’s these walks together and her little hobbies that allow her to take her mind off her illness, at least for a little while.

Let's help Pamela get effective treatment

The funds raised will allow Pamela to pay for modern, non-reimbursable targeted treatment: a therapy tailored to her condition that gives her a real chance for a better tomorrow. Every donation gives her concrete hope: for more effective treatment, for relief from her suffering, and for more days when she can return to the things she loves—books, music, and walks with Ziutek.
