A Birthday in Silence
Mira's condition remains stable. He is currently undergoing maintenance treatment, which requires him to stay at home and limit his contact with the outside world almost entirely. Mira understands that this is part of the treatment, that Isolation is meant to protect what matters most. But understanding brings no relief. Everyday life confined within four walls drags on in silence, which, over time, begins to weigh heavily. It lacks the presence of peers, shared fun, and spontaneous laughter.![]()
Mira recently celebrated her 9th birthday
A day that should have been filled with people and joy passed without any friends. Their absence was clearly felt. Mira tried to smile, but Her gaze betrayed a longing for a world she cannot return to for the time being. March 27, 2026

Childhood halted by illness
In December 2024, Mireczka began to run a fever. She was weak, felt unwell, and her high temperature persisted. Her parents had blood tests done. When they saw the results, they knew that something very serious was happening. The diagnosis confirmed the worst: acute lymphoblastic leukemia. In an instant, their world collapsed.
At the beginning of 2025, Mira began intensive treatment at the Karol Jonscher Clinical Hospital of the Medical University of Poznań. She spent about seven months in the hospital, where she received chemotherapy, supplements, and intravenous fluids. During her treatment, she underwent general anesthesia many times—regular bone marrow biopsies and chemotherapy administered directly into the spinal canal were necessary. She also had about eight undeveloped baby teeth removed to prevent inflammation and tooth decay, also under anesthesia.

Treatment is still ongoing
After her hospitalization, Mira was discharged home and placed on oral maintenance therapy. She still has blood tests once or twice a week and visits the hospital for check-ups once a month. If her health deteriorates, she is admitted to the hospital on an emergency basis. Due to her severely compromised immune system, she is prohibited from contact with other children and from going out in public. She is taught exclusively on an individual basis or online, which further exacerbates her sense of isolation.
The effects of the disease that are difficult to bear
The treatment caused complete hair loss, muscle weakness, and an inability to perform activities typical for children her age. Mira often struggles with symptoms of infection, such as a runny nose or a cold, which pose a real threat with her weakened immune system. The biggest daily challenge is loneliness and the inability to play freely. Mira cannot go to shopping malls, fairs, or meet with her peers—her world has shrunk considerably.
A family in a difficult situation
Mira's illness completely changed the family's life. Her parents had to subordinate everything to caring for their daughter. They live in constant stress and fear for her health. The family returned to Poland in search of better medical care after years of living abroad. Mira's father is a Syrian citizen—he is learning Polish and cannot yet take up permanent employment. Her mother works part-time so that she can be with her daughter as often as possible. Currently, they do not have a car or stable employment.
The funds raised will be used for: non-refundable medications and regular tests, Mira's nutritional and school needs, renting an apartment close to the hospital, ongoing treatment and transportation costs. Every bit of help, no matter how small, is of great importance. It gives the family real support and Mira hope for a better tomorrow and the strength to continue fighting.
