The fever set off an avalanche of dramatic events
Fever in a child rarely causes concern. At preschool age, it accompanies many infections, only to subside after a few days and allow you to return to everyday life. This time, however, things turned out differently. From the first symptoms, nothing was ordinary. The temperature did not drop despite medication, and instead of subsiding, the ailments grew worse every day. There were enlarged lymph nodes, sleepless nights and growing anxiety that grew stronger by the hour.
On September 24, 2025, a seemingly harmless fever turned out to be the beginning of dramatic events. Subsequent tests brought more and more questions and less and less hope for a simple explanation. The knockout blow came with blood results that revealed critically low platelet levels.
A diagnosis that cannot be tamed
First the ED, more tests, ultrasounds, lung x-rays, downloads and waiting...The results pointed to three viruses: mononucleosis, Epstein-Barr and enterovirus.
At first glance, everything was beginning to fall into a logical whole, butthe doctors felt that this was not the end of the story, that there was something more going on in the girl's body - something that these results did not yet show.
It was decided to transport Mariai to the "Cape of Hope" for further diagnostics. The words that almost echoed off the hospital walls stopped time - acute lymphoblastic leukemia. This was the moment when hope gave way to a drama that is impossible to prepare for.
At such moments, life begins anew. Suddenly the world shrinks to a small hand, the quiet breathing and heartbeat of a beloved child. Everything else disappears. Only one thing remains - the desire to save them at all costs.
Delicacy encapsulated in the autism spectrum
Mariia is a gentle, sensitive four-year-old diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder. She and her family came from her native Dnieper, Ukraine, fleeing the war and seeking peace and safety in Poland. It seemed they would finally be able to breathe, but fate once again decided to test their strength.
Mariaya's mother, Olena, knows what a struggle it is. When she was eight years old, she lost her leg in an accident. Instead of giving up, she became Ukraine's representative in Paralympic sitting volleyball. She won medals, inspired others and proved that true strength is born not from the body, but from the spirit. Today, she is passing that same courage on to her daughter.
Mariia is staying at "Cape of Hope", surrounded by the care of doctors and the love of loved ones. The family stands by her constantly and believes that their child will win what is most precious: life itself.
