The onset of the disease and the road to diagnosis
Spring is usually associated with carefree days and the first outdoor games. For Maciek, however, it began with a series of worrisome infections. Initially, the symptoms resembled the common cold. Feeling ill, headaches and weakness seemed natural. Over time, however, something emerged that was a wake-up call for his parents. Their always-energetic son began to say more and more often that he had no strength, that his legs hurt and that he didn't feel like playing. The pain increased day by day, until finally Matthias stopped walking.
Concerned about this, the boy's dad took him to a hospital in Krakow. Initial tests did not indicate anything alarming. It wasn't until September that a detailed morphology revealed results that suggested leukemia. As a matter of urgency, the boy was taken by medical transport to the Cape of Hope in Wroclaw.
Since October fourth, Maciuś and his dad have been in the ward of a clinic in Wroclaw. There the diagnosis was confirmed and treatment with chemotherapy was immediately implemented. An LP and in-depth examinations are scheduled for November thirtieth, which will allow doctors to assess the effectiveness of the therapy so far and decide on further treatment.
Health history that complicates treatment
Matthias, despite such a young age, has already been through a lot. He previously had to undergo surgery on both legs due to what is known as a horse's foot, which is a permanent bend in the sole that requires surgical intervention. He has also had a kidney tumor removed in the past. He also has concomitant ophthalmic problems that require ongoing specialized care.
Superimposing the process of treating leukemia on such a fraught health history means that every step of therapy must be carried out with extreme care and under the close supervision of doctors.
Daily life that has become a test of strength
A five-year-old stays with his dad away from home, which involves longing, constant tension and tremendous emotional strain.
Every day is a struggle for health, for stability and for hope.
Supporting this story is a gesture of solidarity that becomes a real help in the fight for a child's life. Maciek deserves carefree, joy and a future free of suffering. Let's help!
