Four cycles behind Livia
Livia has now undergone four cycles of chemotherapy. Period From June 10 to September 5, 2025, she spent most of her time in the hospital. often in isolation, because intensive treatment had greatly reduced her results. These were long weeks of fever, blood and platelet transfusions, vigilance, and constant tension.A small spark in the ward
Four cycles of chemotherapy meant as many as eight hospital stays, carried out at two-week intervals. Despite the enormous burden, Livia remained herself. Smiling, eager to play, she was able to bring lightness to a place where silence and fatigue usually reign.![]()
First good news
On September 11, the first follow-up MRI scan. The result confirmed that The treatment is working. This information brought enormous relief and hope, which the family desperately needed in order to find the strength to continue with the next stages of treatment.Proton therapy in Krakow
During the period From September 25 to November 5, 2025, Livia began proton therapy. at the National Institute of Oncology in Krakow. She underwent thirty exposures cerebrospinal fluid with involvement of the vertebrae, which was a huge challenge for a five-year-old child. Despite the difficulties of treatment, this period became a moment of relative respite. Livia regained her appetite and gained strength., and the daily support of doctors and staff made the therapy as stress-free as possible for her.Return to the oncology ward
Since November 19, the family has been staying at the Oncology Ward in Katowice again. where Livia began maintenance chemotherapy. The beginning of this stage was very difficult. For nearly three weeks, the girl was extremely tired, often napping and losing her appetite. Her body needed time to adjust to the next phase of treatment.![]()
Further results and rehabilitation
December 22 and 23, the following was done: control resonances head and spine. The results are good and confirm that proton therapy has produced the expected results. Livia regularly also participates in rehabilitation, which she really liked. The classes help strengthen muscles, improve well-being, and are an important part of the path to health.Everyday life outside of treatment
Recovery is not just about cancer treatment. It also involves proper nutrition, supplementation, psychological support, and regular commutes to Katowice, 225 kilometers away from home one way. Starting in September, Livia will begin remote preschool to prepare for school at her own pace. She misses kindergarten, her peers, and the activities that once filled her days."We are eagerly awaiting the moment when we can start making up for lost time." - Livia's mom and dad

The diagnosis came on his birthday
On May 22, 2025, the day of her fifth birthday, Livia was admitted to a hospital in Dzierżoniów. It was there, in the girl's tiny head, that doctors diagnosed a brain tumor. This diagnosis, so absolute and sudden, did not give loved ones a moment to pause or space to emotionally relive what had happened. An immediate decision was made to urgently transport Livia to the Upper Silesian Children's Health Center in Katowice. From that moment, everything began to happen at a dizzying pace.
Four days later, on May 26, Prof. Marek Madera and his team of neurosurgeons performed surgery to remove the tumor. The procedure was a technical success, but its outcome did not bring relief. Histopathological tests confirmed the malignant nature of the lesion. The diagnosis was grim: medulloblastoma—an extremely aggressive and rare cancer of the central nervous system that most often affects young children.
The beginning of a difficult road
Livka has undergone her first cycle of cancer treatment—the one that opens the door to further therapy and shows what a demanding opponent she is facing. The girl was admitted to the pediatric oncology ward in Katowice on June 10, and since then, her daily life has been subordinated to hospital procedures. She has further stages of therapy ahead of her, including radiotherapy, and further decisions that will depend on the results of diagnostic tests, including spinal fluid testing. Every day is a challenge that tests the child's strength with a precision that no one is prepared for.
Everyday life with cancer
Each day is not only a medical challenge, but also a huge organizational and emotional effort for the entire family.
Her world has closed in the walls of the hospital. In this new reality, every moment of peace, every smile, every kind word means more than ever before.
The fight against medulloblastoma is not only a heroic battle against the disease, but also a huge financial burden. Every day of treatment means new expenses: supportive medications, supplementation, neurological rehabilitation, specialized diet, commuting and round-the-clock care. For the parents, this means a constant balancing act between being there for their daughter and organizing the support needed to continue treatment.
