Update

Mr. Krzysztof's current state of health
Unfortunately, the situation remains very difficult and there has been no significant improvement recently. Mr. Krzysztof is currently experiencing a severe mental breakdown and refuses to undergo additional tests and consultations. He only agrees to visits from a hospice nurse, who visits him twice a week. The family is now waiting for a visit from the hospice doctor, who is to change the pain medication, as the current drugs are becoming less and less effective. The doctor is currently away from the facility, but his visit is planned for the coming days.
Daily challenges and home care
Mr. Krzysztof's condition requires constant vigilance and care. Sudden spikes in blood pressure are becoming more frequent, forcing the family to call an ambulance—sometimes even every other day. Recently, it has also been necessary to perform enemas several times due to severe constipation, despite the use of medications to aid bowel function.   Blood tests have shown a decrease in iron levels, so Krzysztof is currently taking iron supplements. Painkillers and mouth irritation relievers are also administered on a regular basis. There are also moments when breathing becomes more difficult, so the family is currently trying to obtain an oxygen concentrator, which will be able to provide relief when needed. Every day brings different challenges. There are moments when Krzysztof has a little more strength—he can then watch TV for a while, and recently he even managed to go outside for a few minutes. Unfortunately, there are also moments of sudden deterioration in his well-being, which come very unexpectedly. The family would like to thank everyone for their words of support and for remembering Krzysztof during this extremely difficult time. March 10, 2026

The symptoms appeared before the diagnosis was made.

The first symptoms appeared several months before the disease was diagnosed. Initially, they were not clear-cut. Over time, they intensified and could no longer be ignored. On February 15, 2024, cancer was suspected. Tests and biopsies confirmed stage III laryngeal cancer. Treatment began immediately.

The treatment proved to be too much of a burden.

Radiotherapy was carried out according to plan. After the first chemotherapy treatment, Krzysztof's health deteriorated significantly. He experienced severe weakness and a decline in bodily functions.

Due to chronic ischemic heart disease, a previous heart attack, stents, and kidney failure, continuing oncological treatment was associated with a very high risk. Krzysztof did not consent to further chemotherapy. In the fall of 2024, tests showed no evidence of cancer. This condition did not last long. At the beginning of 2025, the cancer recurred.

The most burdensome changes are those affecting everyday functioning.

Krzysztof speaks, but his voice is much weaker and altered. He is having increasing difficulty swallowing. Eating and talking require more and more effort. He experiences pain, weakness, and increasing fatigue.

Currently, pain relief and symptomatic treatment are used. Its aim is to alleviate symptoms and improve quality of life. Krzysztof stays at home and requires constant care from his family.

This period was further burdened by the loss of

In September, Krzysztof experienced the death of his son. This event significantly affected his mental state and ability to cope with his illness. The family functions in a state of constant emotional tension. They are accompanied by uncertainty, fatigue, and a feeling of being overwhelmed by daily responsibilities.

The disease took away my independence and my previous rhythm of life.

For many years, Krzysztof was an active and independent person. His passion was fishing, which gave him peace and a sense of balance. His illness significantly limited his ability to pursue this passion.

It is particularly difficult for loved ones to watch the gradual loss of independence and to have to take on more and more responsibility for the daily functioning of the patient.

Why we are asking for your support

The progression of the disease and the inability to continue oncological treatment make it necessary to provide ongoing symptomatic and pain relief treatment. This involves regular expenses for medications, medical consultations, travel to medical facilities, and the means necessary for daily care.

Not everything can be changed, and not everything can be stopped. However, we can make it less difficult. We are grateful for any form of support.
