Urgent research
At the end of December last year, we took our son Kamil to see our family doctor. For some time, he had been complaining of itching and a slight stinging sensation in his chest.
The doctor ordered an X-ray.
The next morning, we received a phone call that will stay with us forever. We were told that we had to go in immediately for a CT scan.
Chemotherapy
A moment later, our world came to a standstill. After the examination, our son was urgently transported to Gdańsk to the hematology ward. The doctors had to quickly administer life-saving chemotherapy. A chest drain was inserted to remove the accumulated fluid, and a bone marrow and chest biopsy were also performed.
He developed respiratory failure, which led to his admission to the intensive care unit. It was a time of immense fear, uncertainty, and helplessness. Every hour brought new questions to which no one could give a definite answer.
The Long Road to Recovery
Since then, Kamil has been battling lymphoblastic lymphoma. During his treatment, our son struggled with, among other things, a gastrointestinal infection, severe hypertriglyceridemia, and anaphylactic reactions following plasma transfusions.
Despite these challenges, Kamil fights bravely every day. However, he still has a long road ahead of him. He has a few more months of hospital treatment, followed by about 1.5 years of treatment at home.
A Love of Sports
Not long ago, Kamil was always on the move, with a ball at his feet. He played soccer, rode his bike, and infected everyone with his energy and smile. It was hard to keep up with him. Today, his reality looks completely different.
Kamil requires round-the-clock care, so as parents, we share the responsibilities so that we can be with him every day. Our lives revolve around the fight for his health and future.
Brothers
His brothers are waiting for him at home. They miss Kamil very much and are deeply affected by their beloved brother’s illness every day. They don’t understand why life has changed so suddenly. They miss playing together, laughing, and the everyday moments that they once took for granted.
