Our peaceful life came to an end in an instant
We lived an ordinary life, but we found happiness in that ordinariness. Kajtuś went to preschool and enjoyed the carefree innocence of childhood—something no child should be deprived of.
A single doctor’s visit set off a chain of events that changed our world. After describing his symptoms, we were referred for urgent blood tests. The results turned out to be critical. We were told to go to the hospital immediately.
The diagnosis came almost immediately and broke our hearts. We struggled with our own suffering, which was compounded by the questions from our beloved son. With a child’s curiosity, he asked why his blood was sick, unaware of the burden that had fallen on our shoulders. He didn’t understand why everything that had been within reach until then was suddenly separated from him by a hospital wall.
Everything related to a child’s illness is a huge challenge for a parent. Although the pain was heartbreaking, we faced it head-on every day. This repetitive hospital reality, full of prohibitions, restrictions, and challenges, lasted nearly four months. The treatment, with its numerous complications that deprived us of even a brief return home, has been ongoing since November 3, 2025.
A catheter-associated bacterial infection, acute pneumonia, poor test results. All of this meant that from November through February, we were in the hospital the whole time, without ever going home.
Kajtuś could only see his dad through the window. Visits were prohibited on the ward, and my husband also worked on weekends, so we couldn’t take turns. I was with my son inside. He stood on the other side of the glass. Today, that image hurts even more.
During my treatment, I lost my husband, and Kajtuś lost his dad.
On June 14, on a Sunday morning, while I was at the hospital with Kajtuś, I received news that cannot be described in calm words. My husband, Kajtuś’s dad, died suddenly as a result of a ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysm. Our world came to a standstill for the second time.
Up until that point, we had shared everything we possibly could with each other. I was with my son in the hospital, while my husband worked and provided for the family. He was my support, my strength—the person with whom I got through the hardest days of our child’s illness. I was left alone with the pain of losing a loved one, fearing for my son’s life, and facing the responsibility for everything that lay ahead of us.
Treatment is still ongoing
Kajtuś is currently undergoing Protocol II of treatment according to the AIEOP-BFM ALL 2017 program. On June 23, he received his 29th day of chemotherapy. Once this phase is complete, he will transition to maintenance therapy.
My son is responding well to the treatment, and I’m clinging to that news with all my strength.
Leukemia has taken over our lives. Chemotherapy appointments, test results, hospital stays, and daily visits to the hospital have become part of our everyday life. I’m unable to work because I’m with Kajtuś all the time. His treatment requires my presence, and the entire burden of caring for him falls on me now.
In an instant, we lost not only our dad and husband, but also the only person who provided for our family. I don’t know yet what our future will look like. All I know is that my little boy must have a chance to continue his treatment.
Please support Kajtuś.
After losing my husband, I was left alone to deal with our child’s illness, with immense pain and fear for each new day. However, as long as Kajtuś is undergoing treatment, as long as he’s responding well to it, and as long as there’s a chance for him to recover, I’ll do everything I can to guide him through this journey.
Please help me fight for my little boy.
