Little Kai's struggle to return to full strength and health

She was a healthy and lively child, rarely ill with typical childhood ailments....

In late April 2023, her health suddenly changed. Initial symptoms, such as a cough, runny nose and fever, quickly turned into something much more serious when severe knee pain appeared, making it impossible to walk. The alarming symptoms prompted her parents to immediately visit a doctor, who diagnosed arthritis in the knee and prescribed an antibiotic, but Kai's condition did not improve.

Further blood tests showed alarming results that sent Kaja and her family to a clinic in Szczecin, where, after detailed tests, the worst diagnosis was confirmed - B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia.

Then the fight for Kai's life began, replete with long and intense cycles of chemotherapy that required her to stay in the hospital for weeks at a time and limit her contacts to avoid infection.

Treatment was not without complications - Kaja struggled with stomatitis and viral pneumonia. Despite this, every return home, even for a short pass, was a precious time of recovery and joy for her and her family. The completion of chemotherapy just before Christmas 2023 became a ray of hope that brightened this difficult period. Subsequently, Kaja underwent radiation therapy to the central nervous system, and is now continuing treatment with maintenance chemotherapy in pill form.

Kai's health situation has forced her family to make significant changes - adapting her apartment to meet her new needs and requiring one of her parents to give up his job, which has significantly affected the household budget.
