Chronic infection took away strength day by day

In the fall of 2024, Julia began to fall ill. The chronic infection did not subside, and the accompanying: lack of appetite, weight loss and pale skin caused increasing concern. Weeks passed, and the 11-year-old's condition did not improve. The morphology results left no doubt - deep anemia and severe vitamin deficiencies. As a matter of urgency, Julia was referred to a hospital in Starogard Gdanski with the recommendation of a blood transfusion.

Disturbing results, transport to Gdansk and diagnosis

The results of the tests performed in Starogard Gdanski were so alarming that the hospital immediately consulted with the Hematology Clinic in Gdansk. After two days of observation, the decision was made to transport Julia by ambulance to a specialized center. In Gdansk, an in-depth diagnosis was initiated. Although initially only extreme anemia was suspected, doctors - unsure - decided to perform a bone marrow biopsy. The result brought brutal clarity: B-type acute lymphoblastic leukemia. A diagnosis that changes the whole world in an instant.

Treatment that brings hope - and a threat to life

Intensive chemotherapy was started. For the first weeks, Julia's body tolerated the treatment well.

Blood cancer, hemorrhage, surgery, resuscitation - and Julia is still fighting❗.

On day 33, a dramatic complication occurred as a side effect of chemotherapy:

  • ulcer rupture
  • internal bleeding
  • immediate operation
  • cardiac arrest
  • resuscitation

Julia's condition was critical and life-threatening!

Interrupted therapy and slow return

After the operation, Julia spent nearly a month in the intensive care unit. Every day was a trial of recovery and stabilization of vital signs. Only after this time was she able to return to the hematology department. Treatment resumed.

Many months of therapy

Julia is continuing her oncology treatment. If her health allows it and no further complications arise, chemotherapy will last until October 2025.
After that, the maintenance therapy stage will begin , which means taking daily medication in pills. This is another year and a half of treatment.
In parallel, follow-up appointments, examinations and consultations have been scheduled - all in order to watch over an organism that has already undergone so much at every stage.

Sometimes all it takes is one moment for all life to slip away. It also only takes one gesture for hope to return.
