The pain that led to the diagnosis
Iwona’s medical history began unexpectedly on September 11, 2025, when she experienced severe pain in the area of her appendix. The very next day, doctors decided to perform emergency surgery. An appendectomy and a resection of a portion of the omentum were performed.
Initially, everything pointed to an acute surgical problem, but further tests revealed a much more serious diagnosis.
Iwona was diagnosed with stage III serous peritoneal adenocarcinoma. The disease had spread to the appendix, the right ovary, the right fallopian tube, and the serosa of the uterus, with invasion of the muscular layer. In November 2025, another extensive surgery was necessary. The doctors performed a laparotomy to remove the uterus along with the adnexa and the greater omentum.
Treatment that requires tremendous strength
Iwona is currently undergoing chemotherapy. She has completed two cycles of treatment and has four more to go.
The therapy, which offers a chance to halt the disease, also comes with numerous side effects. These include muscle and joint pain, severe fatigue in the first few days after receiving the infusions, early signs of neuropathy in the hands and feet, and hair thinning.
After chemotherapy is completed, doctors will perform imaging tests and blood tests to assess the effects of the treatment so far. The next stage of therapy will be hormone therapy, aimed at maintaining the results achieved.
Comorbidities place an additional burden on the body. Iwona struggles with type 2 diabetes, hypertension, and hyperlipidemia, which means the entire treatment process requires even greater caution and monitoring.
Daily life between treatment and responsibilities
Iwona lives with her 19-year-old son. Despite her illness, she tries to keep working, because it is her job that allows her to support her family and provide them with stability.
Unfortunately, frequent hospital stays and periods of recovery following successive stages of treatment result in absences from work and a significant reduction in her income.
After her divorce, Iwona rents an apartment, the cost of which consumes nearly half of her salary. At the same time, she is raising two sons who are still in school and need support.
The younger of the two has had serious health issues of his own. He underwent spinal surgery due to a benign tumor. Today, Iwona’s greatest challenge is balancing her fight for her own health with ensuring the safety and stability of her family.
The strength that keeps you going
Despite all the difficulties, Iwona tries to stay calm and keep the faith that the treatment will bring the desired results.
Simple moments bring her the most comfort. She enjoys spending time by a peaceful lake, cooking for her loved ones, and sharing with others what she does best.
In addition to her professional work , she also teaches Polish to foreigners. This activity gives her immense satisfaction and a sense that even in difficult times, she can still be a source of support for someone.
Support that helps you get through treatment
The funds raised will be used to cover the costs of non-reimbursable medications, dental treatment, medical tests and specialist consultations, transportation to medical facilities, psychological care, and day-to-day support during treatment.
