Treatment that is still ongoing
Ewa's illness began in early 2024 with an inconspicuous subcutaneous lump on her right cheek. Initially, there was no indication of how serious the consequences of this change would be. A biopsy was performed in April, and the results received in July completely changed her life. Ewa was immediately referred to the hospital.
On August 20, 2024, Ewa underwent extensive surgery to remove a tumor from her cheek. The procedure was very serious—it was necessary to remove part of her palate, upper jaw, and the right side of her nose. During the operation, the Eustachian tube in her right ear was also damaged. A skin graft was also performed on her lower leg. This was only the beginning of a difficult journey.
Another blow – metastases
In October 2024, a lump appeared in the pelvic area. After a biopsy, it turned out to be cancerous metastases. Intensive oncological treatment began. Ewa underwent 33 doses of radiotherapy and 8 cycles of chemotherapy. She is currently still undergoing treatment for metastases and is under constant supervision by the Oncology Center, as well as receiving palliative care. The treatment saved her life, but it had serious consequences.
Ewa struggles with polyneuropathy, double vision (her right eye is below the visual axis), and hearing loss in her right ear. Lack of strength and neurological symptoms make everyday functioning a huge challenge. Ewa stays at home, where her daughter helps her. She is visited twice a week by a palliative care nurse and once every two weeks by an oncologist.
The illness that took away my job and independence
Due to her complete inability to work, Ewa lost her job. She is currently in the process of applying for disability benefits. Although she can count on tremendous support from her children, siblings, and loved ones, her financial situation has become very difficult. The biggest challenge today is simply everyday life—lack of strength, pain, and limitations after treatment.
The funds raised will be used for rehabilitation, non-refundable medications, and travel to specialist consultations and rehabilitation treatments, which are necessary for Ewa to regain at least some independence and a better quality of life. Every donation is real help and a sign that Ewa is not alone in this difficult struggle.
