Life in sudden combat mode
On May 7, 2024, the diagnosis hit with a force that took away the breath and stopped the daily life of the whole family. Medulloblastoma - one of the most common, and most malignant, brain tumors in children. There was no time to waste. The very next day, David underwent surgery to remove the tumor and implant a vascular port. However, the night after the surgery brought complications - brain swelling, balance disorders and double vision. From that moment on, life for Dawid and his loved ones became a constant struggle for every step, every day and every ray of hope.
The silent enemy - medulloblastoma
This type of cancer grows rapidly and requires immediate treatment: surgery, chemotherapy and radiation therapy. David has already undergone cycles of chemotherapy and proton therapy.
However, the body is still struggling with the consequences of the treatment administered-declining performance, weakness, the need for thrombocyte transfusions. Every day means working with physiotherapists on balance and muscle strength, which the disease and treatment have so painfully taken away from him.
Family torn between hospital and home
While mom keeps vigil at David's bedside, dad stayed home with his siblings - a 20-year-old sister, an 11-year-old brother and an 8-year-old sister. His son's illness has meant that Dad has been out of work virtually since May 2024. Every day is a balancing act between taking care of him, organizing his home and struggling to raise funds for treatment, physiotherapy and daily living.
A chance to get back in the game
David dreams of playing basketball again, meeting friends and enjoying ordinary life. Every hour of physiotherapy is a step toward being able to hold the ball in his hands again and see the world clearly, without double vision. To make this goal a reality, support is needed for treatment and rehabilitation.
