Last November, my life was supposed to take a completely different turn. I was preparing to begin my active duty in the military; it was a time full of plans, challenges, and anticipation for this new chapter. I was focused on what lay ahead.
During the imaging tests, which were part of the preparations, the doctor noticed something that no one had expected. A lesion had appeared in my lungs.
I felt a fear I had never known before
After that, everything started happening very quickly. More referrals, more appointments, more tests. Each new step was supposed to bring me closer to the truth, but at the same time, it made me feel increasingly anxious.
Then the day of my doctor's appointment arrived, and I will remember his words forever. I was told the diagnosis: adenocarcinoma of the left lung.
That moment is still very vivid in my memory. I remember the silence, the emotions, and a fear I had never felt before. Fear of what would happen next. Fear of something I couldn't predict or control.
Treatment and surgery
In mid-February, I underwent surgery to completely remove the upper lobe of my left lung, along with the mediastinal lymph nodes. A few days later, another surgery was necessary: to close the chylothorax and debride the pleura. That was just the beginning of the battle.
I then began treatment: adjuvant chemotherapy and immunotherapy, as well as participation in clinical trials.
Current Challenges
In addition to cancer, I also deal with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease every day. It’s an additional challenge that affects my daily life and requires constant attention to my health.
Today, my life is completely different from what it used to be. My illness has forced me to slow down. These days, I spend most of my time at home and am unable to work.
Travel, sports, and books
Before I got sick, I loved to travel, and the mountains held a special place in my heart. That’s where I found peace, gazing at the beautiful landscapes and listening to the sounds of nature. I was an active person, and sports were a natural part of my everyday life.
Books have also always been a great passion of mine. Thanks to them, I could transport myself to other worlds, meet extraordinary characters, and forget about everyday life for a moment.
Support
Today, many things that used to come naturally to me have become a challenge. I have trouble breathing, I get tired quickly, and simple tasks require much more effort on my part than they used to.
My illness has not only brought limitations, but also enormous costs. I need regular physical therapy and psychological support to continue fighting to regain my mobility and recover. I would greatly appreciate your help during this difficult time.
