Breast Screening
In January of this year, I went for a preventive breast exam. It was supposed to be a routine checkup, after which I would return to my daily routine and responsibilities. There was no indication that my life was about to change drastically.
However, during the imaging exam, the doctor noticed an alarming abnormality. I remember that moment as if it were yesterday—my legs went weak, and I was overcome with fear. I wasn’t prepared for that news.
Treatment and surgery
In April, I underwent surgery to remove a tumor from my right breast and a sentinel lymph node biopsy in my armpit on the same side. That’s when I received the difficult diagnosis: malignant tumor of the right breast.
I am currently undergoing hormone therapy. Every day, I feel an enormous emotional burden. Each day brings new emotions, ranging from fear and uncertainty to moments of hope and determination. There are times when it’s hard to control my fear.
Work was my passion
Before I got sick, I worked at a hospice for adults; I loved my job. Every day, I helped others and got so much out of it in return. Every smile from a patient, every conversation, every gesture made me feel needed and appreciated.
I can honestly say that my job was my passion. I really miss those moments and the colleagues I worked with.
Difficult everyday life
Today I’m at home; I live alone. Every day is a challenge for me. I have tremendous support from my whole family and friends. We talk to each other every day and send each other messages. They often ask how I’m doing and comfort me during the tough times.
Before, I was always on the go, full of energy and smiling. I loved the fitness classes I attended regularly. In the evenings, I often read books or watched movies. I also miss playing with my beloved grandson.
The costs associated with my treatment are very high. I can’t afford them on my own, so I’m asking for your help. Every bit of support is incredibly important and brings me closer to what matters most: my health.
