Unusual symptoms
In April and May, Aleks complained of many concerning symptoms that came and went. These included, among others, stomachaches, leg pain, and fever.
Despite repeated visits to doctors and various tests, the results remained within normal limits. No one could pinpoint the cause of the symptoms.
The turning point came during a subsequent visit. The examination revealed an enlarged liver and spleen. That was the first time the word “leukemia” was mentioned.
Diagnosis and treatment
Aleks was taken to a hospital in Szczecin. There, after a series of specialized tests, the doctors diagnosed him with acute lymphoblastic leukemia.
From that moment on, everything happened very quickly. An intense battle for 2-year-old Alex’s health began. The doctors immediately began chemotherapy treatment.
After his treatment, Alex’s body is very weak. Activities that were once part of his daily routine—such as going for a walk, playing, or simply getting out of bed—now require a tremendous amount of effort.
Everyday Life
Today, Aleks is at home, but his battle with leukemia continues. Every few days, he returns to the hospital with his mom. Every day brings new challenges, and the disease has robbed him of the carefree spirit that every child should have.
In the midst of all this is his little sister, who doesn't yet understand why her little brother keeps disappearing to the hospital so often and why he doesn't have the energy to play with her anymore.
Not long ago, Aleks would spend hours playing with dinosaurs and toy cars, loved the playground, and enjoyed pretending to be his favorite superhero. Today, he has to draw on his own true superpower to fight a serious illness.
