Adaś vs. Li-Fraumeni team

Adam's right leg became sore near the tibia, swelling also appeared, and the pain became worse especially at night.

The boy's mother did not hesitate to act and went to the oncology clinic for detailed tests. She was aware that genetics could be weighing down her son. Genetic testing revealed the presence of Li-Fraumeni syndrome, a rare and genetically determined cancer predisposition syndrome.

An ultrasound of soft tissues yielded no major findings, but an X-ray showed the presence of "something" in the tibial region. A CT scan performed the next day confirmed the fears of the attending physician - it was cancer. A section of the tumor taken for histopathological examination allowed an accurate diagnosis, it is a malignant bone tumor known as osteosarcoma.

Chemotherapy treatment was implemented as soon as possible. In May 2024, after undergoing six cycles of chemotherapy, Adam underwent surgery to remove the tumor along with the tibia bone and implant the fibula bone from the other leg in its place. Another procedure - thoracotomy (removal of the tumor from the lung) - came along in the course of treatment. After the procedures, treatment with chemotherapy continued, which continues to this day. After chemotherapy is completed, Adaś will receive maintenance chemotherapy for another year.
