The body was bursting with chemotherapy. The tumor remained unmoved
Chemotherapy, which brought so much suffering, did not produce the expected results. Despite months of treatment, complications, hospitalizations and pain, The tumor has not shrunk even a millimeter. Zosia is back to square one, burdened with powerful side effects. Although one stage of treatment has ended, nothing has closed.Breathing under oxygen, changing pattern, increasingly severe consequences
In the fall of 2024, it was necessary to change the type of chemistry. The previous regimen caused Zosia's saturation problems, headaches and blood pressure spikes. Almost all the time the girl remained under oxygen. However, the new treatment brought other complications. In March of this year, the chemotherapy cycle was completed, but the balance of health was painful. Chemistry has destroyed more than it has managed to repair.Spinal fracture. Silence of a bone that won't knit together
There were bone complications as a result of the cytostatics. Zosia was diagnosed with osteopenia, which resulted in vertebral compression at Th11. The broken bone has not fused for more than six months. If there is no improvement by autumn, surgery will be required. Zosia takes calcium preparations, but daily life requires constant caution - any inattention is a risk of another fracture.Kidney and bladder in alert mode. Daily life in the care regime
In parallel developed second-degree renal failure and urological complications. Zosia does not feel the need to urinate - regular urination is necessary, every three hours during the day and every six hours at night. Until December, the observation continues -. If the situation does not improve, the girl will be catheterized. Each MRI requires hospitalization, as the kidneys are unable to cleanse the body of contrast on their own. A constant sanitary and isolation regime is maintained due to the girl's very low immunity. The tumor is not going away. Another decision could come in the fall
A tumor is still present in Zosia's head, which has not shrunk as a result of the treatment given. Observation and an MRI scan every three months will determine further treatment. If the lesion enlarges, a biopsy in Katowice and a return to treatment in the form of radiotherapy or proton therapy will be necessary.Rehabilitation with pain. Living in the rhythm of exhaustion
Zosia is currently in a neurological rehabilitation center in Radziszow. Exercises, although necessary, are painful and often require breaks, rest, and a reclining position. After the end of chemotherapy, Zosia is constantly in the hospital. Only the wards change: nephrology, urology, oncology, endocrinology. A head MRI and further consultations are already scheduled.Dizziness, noises, the world seems to wobble underfoot
Recently, new symptoms have emerged indicating that the damage to the vagus. Zosia also feels noises and squeaks in the ears, which are particularly aggravated during strong emotions. A repeat hearing test will be necessary. The most important thing now is to get back to fitness and escape the catheter
Today, the most important thing is to prevent further deterioration of health and fight for fitness, save kidney function and avoid catheterization, which Zosia is panic-stricken about. July 24, 2025

The beginning of the drama
Weakness, loss of appetite and persistent vomiting - this is how the story of a struggle that continues to this day began. Weakening day by day, Zosia's parents repeatedly took her to the hospital's emergency department. Each time they returned with diagnoses that did not explain the child's condition. They spoke of asthma, a viral infection, dehydration. No one guessed that the source lay much deeper - in the very inside of the girl's head. This state of affairs persisted for a month. After numerous consultations, Zosia was taken to the neurosurgery department.
After a more thorough examination , extensive hydrocephalus was found. Urgent surgery was performed to decompress the ventricles of the brain and a slice was taken for further diagnosis. The result came quickly and left no illusions - malignant brainstem glioma.
52 cycles of chemo and a long road without guarantees
The first step was to control hydrocephalus as a prerequisite for starting oncological treatment. Chemotherapy was spread over as many as 52 cycles. The treatment plan was simple: slow down the growth of the tumor and thus give surgery a chance.
However, the plans were nowhere near reality. Zosia tolerated the treatment very badly. Her test results were too weak to give her successive doses of chemotherapy on schedule. The treatment dragged on, months passed, and the body weakened.
The disease affects everything
The side effects of the treatment are very serious. Peripheral polyneuropathy has taken away the dexterity of Zosia's hands and legs. Everyday activities, such as unscrewing a bottle or taking a few steps, have become an effort beyond measure.
This was compounded by vision problems, heart trouble and a heart rate that skyrocketed even with a short walk. Reduced immunity confined her to four walls away from her schoolmates. On top of that, scoliosis, aggravated by treatment, rounded out the list of daily difficulties.
And Zosia is still dreaming...
Not so long ago, Zosia was happily climbing onto a horse's back, listening to the rhythm of the gallop that soothed her thoughts and carried her body through the meadows. Today, it's the same body that puts up boundaries, but thoughts run on - toward health, toward strength, toward days that will no longer be woven with treatment and pain.
