Simon was dying before the diagnosis was known
At the end of July 2024, Simon began to experience symptoms that worsened day by day to the point that the boy lost strength, had difficulty maintaining his balance and completely lost his appetite. In a very short period of time, there was also a significant weight loss, and his face showed marked bruising under the eyes, red petechiae and an alarming pallor of the skin, accompanied by a high fever for days.
A diagnosis that confirmed the worst guesses
After blood counts were taken, the boy was immediately transported to the hematology department at a hospital in Szczecin, where detailed diagnostics began. Tests confirmed that the symptoms Simon had been struggling with for several days were the first signs of B-type acute lymphoblastic leukemia, a cancer that develops rapidly and requires immediate treatment.
The medical team, immediately after the diagnosis, implemented steroid treatment, and then chemotherapy was started with the goal of completely eliminating the cancer cells from the bone marrow.
The treatment was successful, but it did not end the fight
In response to the treatment administered, a complete remission of tumor cells in the bone marrow was achieved, meaning that the microscopic image showed no leukemic cells. Despite the positive result, the doctors stipulated that this is only the beginning of the therapeutic process, which requires further long-term follow-up and maintenance treatment.
The treatment plan has been laid out over a two-year period, but the course of treatment will depend on how Simon's body responds to the various stages of therapy. During the following months, further cycles of chemotherapy, check-ups and adjustments to the treatment regimen based on the patient's results and clinical condition will be scheduled.
Securing treatment and peri-medical needs
The funds raised will be used for Simon's ongoing treatment needs, including travel to the hospital, a specialized diet to support a body weakened by cancer therapy, supplementation, hygiene products and essential medical supplies. The costs the family incurs are constant and growing, and with the treatment process spread out over two years, it is necessary to maintain a continuity of support that will enable the boy to safely go through the next stages of treatment.
