The body began to lose its balance

At first there were subtle signals: trembling hands, unsteady gait, loss of balance. Nadia stumbled more and more often, as if the ground were being removed from under her feet. Doctors surmised that an eye defect might be behind her balance problems. Nadia was referred for an ophthalmology consultation. The results of the examination carried out did not confirm the initial diagnosis. Meanwhile, Nadia's condition was worsening, her symptoms were getting worse, and her mother and family's anxiety was becoming more acute.

The lack of a diagnosis did not allow the mother to wait any longer. Without undue delay , she took her daughter to the hospital's emergency department in Wroclaw, where a decision was made for an urgent CT scan.

Threat of death

The CT result was immediate and devastating: a brain tumor - a glioma. Hydrocephalus and severe swelling that was life-threatening. Moments later, Nadia on the operating table was fighting for life. Fortunately, the operation was successful and brought relief and hope for a moment that all the worst was behind the family.

Another operation

Two days after the operation, everything started again. There were complications in the form of intracranial hypertension and leakage of cerebrospinal fluid through the sutures. Nadia ended up in the operating theater again. This time the hospital stay was longer, full of anxiety, checks and careful monitoring of the child's condition. Each day was another test of the strength of both Nadia and her loved ones.

A tumor you have to learn to live with

The location of the tumor makes it impossible to remove it. It is too deep, too close to structures that would be too risky to disturb. It also doesn't help that the tumor is chemo-resistant. It does not yield to any known form of treatment.

Today Nadia lives with the tumor still stuck in her head. Every two months she undergoes check-ups to see if the cancer remains dormant. This cyclical uncertainty, and this fear of the word "grown," looms over the family like a shadow. Mom and those closest to her live in a tension that does not go away, as the future is still in question.
