A story of an illness that was not to happen again
Nearly three decades ago, Marzena heard the diagnosis: pituitary cancer. She underwent treatment that was successful, but left a lasting stigma - diabetes and simple uraemia, which she lived with every day, learning to build normalcy around what was difficult.
For years she believed that her toughest battles were behind her. What she didn't expect was that one day in December, in the midst of Christmas preparations, she would develop shortness of breath and hemoptysis - signals that would force her into another battle for life.
Struggling for a diagnosis
The ambulance took Marzena to the hospital, where a chest X-ray and basic blood tests were performed. Despite her symptoms, she was discharged home. The situation repeated itself again and again: brief hospitalizations, routine examinations and continued lack of answers. Determined to find the cause, Marzena checked in privately with a pulmonologist, who concluded that the cause might be burst blood vessels.
However, the body did not give up. At the end of March, the symptoms worsened. During another hospitalization in the pulmonology department, detailed tests were performed, which revealed the truth: cancerous lesions in the lungs and bronchi.
Long and expensive treatment plan
Chemotherapy was started in April 2025. Six cycles have been planned, and regular imaging tests will be performed during treatment to assess whether the treatment is having an effect and whether metastases have developed.
Every day of this battle costs money. Medications, supplementation, specialized diets, private consultations and expensive travel to the hospital are necessary.
