Gosia is suffering from PMBCL, a rare mediastinal lymphoma. Help❗

The cancer had taken over the mediastinum of a 15-year-old girl. The tumor was compressing the heart and lungs. To operate the intruder under anesthesia, due to its size, risked death. Treatment is ongoing, and each day puts the body to a test that is impossible to predict.

Fourth cycle of treatment with hope in the background
Behind Gosia is another difficult chapter in the story of her treatment. The fourth cycle of chemotherapy has come to an end, leaving behind traces of fatigue, but also the first signs of effectiveness. The latest results show a clear regression. The tumor has shrunk by 86%. This is a number that does not yet guarantee victory, but it certainly allows one to breathe and believe that the treatment is heading in the right direction.
Indispensable pain
Chemotherapy, in addition to hope, also brought suffering. A burnt esophagus prevented Gosia from taking in food. For four days she could neither eat nor drink. Those were the days when a parent's helplessness becomes almost a physical burden.
Moments of respite are rare and brief
For Gosia and her loved ones, time is measured by cycles of treatment, days of complications, hours of wakefulness. For the past four months, their home has remained a hospital room. All "free" moments can be counted on the fingers of one hand. Three days and three hours outside the clinic walls are too little to rest, but also too precious to waste. Even these moments not infrequently end in complications, as if the disease reminds you that you can't escape it even for a moment.
A gentle smile
Gosia is slowly recovering. In August, another - the fifth cycle - is planned. It will be even more difficult, more demanding, but also necessary.
This struggle teaches
It's not just struggling with an illness. It's learning to love in its purest form. It is a daily lesson in patience, perseverance and the strength that is born out of impotence. Thank you for being beside us! July 15, 2025
From diagnosis to concrete - 2.5 months of struggle
More than two months have passed since Gosia heard the diagnosis. From that moment on, the whole family's life moved to hospital rooms. The diagnosis was devastating: suspected lymphoma. Gosia - hitherto full of energy, empathy and plans - suddenly found herself in a situation that shattered her entire familiar daily life.
When biopsy became too dangerous
On March 19, Gosia was transported by ambulance to "Cape of Hope", where intensive diagnostics began. It turned out that the main tumor located in the mediastinum was so large that performing a biopsy threatened serious life-threatening danger. Intubation under anesthesia was impossible because the tumor was compressing the airway, and any attempt at general anesthesia could have ended tragically.
The only chance - tumor at the ovary
Radiological images also noted a lesion within the left ovary. Although the tumor was located outside the chest, doctors thought it might be part of the same disease process. This offered a chance to perform a diagnostic biopsy in a safer way.
Surgery under epidural anesthesia
Due to the limitations of using general anesthesia, doctors decided to operate under epidural anesthesia while keeping the patient conscious. The procedure was successful. The lesion at the ovary was removed along with the ovary, which was completely destroyed. The tumor was about 14 centimeters in diameter and had grown in just a few weeks.
Diagnosis confirmed: PMBCL
After surgery, the diagnosis was confirmed: primary mediastinal large B-cell lymphoma (PMBCL), a rare, aggressive neoplasm of the non-Hodgkin's lymphoma group. Oncological treatment was started immediately.
Complications that delayed therapy
Unfortunately, complications arose after the first cycle of chemotherapy. Thrombosis, inflammation and infection after the femoral insertion prevented the insertion of a Broviac (central catheter) to facilitate further treatment. When the inflammation was brought under control and the catheter implantation was carried out, further difficulties arose. The surgical wound refused to heal, and oozing blood delayed further treatment cycles.
Only three days at home
Since being admitted to the hospital, Gosia has spent only three days and three hours at home. Two attempts at discharge ended with an immediate return to the ward due to complications. She has now started her third cycle of chemotherapy and is awaiting further decisions from doctors. June 20, 2025

Inconspicuous beginnings

Feelings of fatigue, accelerated pulse, anxiety difficult to name, were symptoms that, while bothersome, did not indicate a deadly threat. A visit to the doctor, a referral for tests, the ED and a return home with a diagnosis - RSV. The virus was thought to be responsible for the reported symptoms.

The signals the body was giving, however, said more than the results indicated. The heart did not slow down, and breathing became increasingly shallow.
The beginning of the fight for life

More tests appeared: ultrasound, EKG, consultations. Finally came the moment when everything became clear. From the doctor's lips came the diagnosis. Overnight, Gosia ended up at "Cape of Hope" with the diagnosis - lymphoma.

It's not the end of the world, but only on the condition that we help Gosia get it back
