Amputation, chemotherapy, complications. Maks is still fighting for health❗.

Tests, rehabilitation, radiation, more consultations. Each of them ended with the same thing: no clear diagnosis. It was only in Wroclaw, during an ultrasound, that a change was seen in Maks' knee that no one had noticed before. This was the beginning of a journey that continues to this day. From that moment on, life changed its course.

Update

More health complications for Maks
It started with infections, which began to appear more frequently from September 2024. Usually it ended with medication and the expectation that the body would cope faster this time. Unfortunately - there were more infections, and the medications stopped working. During the Christmas holidays The fever reached 40 degrees. This time she managed to beat it, but a few weeks later the situation repeated itself. This time The fever refused to subside, and the heart rate increased to 125 beats per minute.
Sudden hospitalization and deteriorating heart condition
During the night, the parents made the decision to go immediately to the Children's ED in Jelenia Gora. On site, Maksiu was given a broad-spectrum antibiotic. However, the results of the blood tests were not good. Particularly worrisome were the parameters of the heart, which had already been functioning with failure since chemotherapy. Significant swelling appeared. Nearly 12 liters of water accumulated in the body. Intensive diuretic treatment was implemented.
Transfer to a specialized hospital and further diagnostics
After the inflammation was controlled, Maks was taken to the cardiology department in Wroclaw. A number of tests were performed, including his first ever cardiac MRI and Holter test. The MRI showed deterioration of his heart function. The valves were not closing properly, and the blood pumping force had weakened significantly. Medications were changed. In March, a cardiac catheterization was performed, which confirmed the diagnosis: restrictive cardiomyopathy and pulmonary hypertension.
Further treatment and waiting for genetic testing
Maks is currently on permanent heart medication, diuretics and expensive injections to help his body function. Samples have also been taken for genetic testing to answer whether a heart transplant will be necessary. Because of the risks and strain on his body, Maks has been placed on strict isolation. He is not allowed to exercise or do much exercise so as not to overload his heart.
New anxiety and upcoming inspections
Maks is facing oncology checks in the near future - MRIs and CT scans. In addition, his parents have sensed a new lump in his shoulder blade area. Tests have been scheduled, but the outcome will have to wait. Each new stage means new costs for treatment and diagnostics. Maksiu continues to fight, and his family remains ready for the next decisions and challenges. June 12, 2025 Maks continues to fight to move around on his own strength❗. Maks doesn't give up in his uneven fight and fights with all his might to return to as much fitness as possible. He has already undergone a leg amputation, but even that has not broken his spirit! Unfortunately, his health still prevents him from enjoying life. In September 2023, the problems with the other, healthy leg began. Inflammation and swelling appeared. Concerned parents undertook medical consultations to diagnose the causes as soon as possible. An MRI showed nothing special, with results still indicating remission. Unfortunately, this does not mean that our Warrior can breathe fully anymore. He still struggles with water retention in his body, and dangerous lymphedema that impedes efficient movement does not help him enjoy everyday life. The treatment undertaken to save a healthy limb has left the heart muscle visibly weakened. It became necessary to replace the medications, unfortunately with more expensive ones. However, taking them is an integral part of Maksio's treatment, without which it will not be possible to take the next steps. In addition, our Warrior suffers from lowered immunity, protein deficiencies appear, among other things. Doctors also recommend checking his kidneys and testing for insulin resistance. Every cold causes water to collect in his lungs. The prosthesis, which supports the teenager's daily functioning, needs to replace parts due to wear and tear and the user's physical development. The cost of replacing these parts is really high - it's about 16 thousand zlotys for replacing two parts. Maksia's road is really long and complicated. However, he has endured so much that we simply can't let his huge effort go to waste! Let's give Maksi a huge amount of support that will carry him to his desired goal! Together we can work real miracles! August 6, 2024

A long road to get a diagnosis

For months, the parents searched for answers. There were red light irradiation, rehabilitation, consultations, tests for rheumatoid arthritis. Each subsequent visit ended with no explanation, no clear diagnosis. Only in Wroclaw did doctors decide to perform an ultrasound of the leg, which showed a change - a tumor in the knee. From that moment the fight for Maks' health began.

Surgery and a difficult diagnosis

In 2014, Maks ended up on the operating table. The histopathology results did not bring good news. Later that year, he began chemotherapy.

However, six cycles of treatment did not bring the expected improvement. The tumor returned, and the body stopped responding to successive cycles of chemotherapy. The family faced a dramatic decision: amputate the limb or try to save the leg at the risk to life.

Amputation and the continued fight against the disease

In 2015, Maks underwent a leg amputation and continued oncology treatment.

Surgery and dramatic decision to amputate leg

A few months later, during the vacations, there was the first good news - remission. The disease subsided, but left behind consequences that still affect Maks' life today.

Side effects of treatment have not disappeared

Years of treatment have left their mark. Maks struggles with hypothyroidism, heart failure and visual impairment. Walking in a prosthesis for years overloaded his healthy leg, which today also requires treatment and rehabilitation.

Everyday life full of new challenges

Maks faces more difficulties every day. Funds are needed for private doctor's visits, rehabilitation, glasses, medications, a wheelchair, a new prosthetic leg, a stationary bike and an electric knee that will allow him to function more efficiently on a daily basis. The cost of treatment and equipment is rising, and the body still needs support to remain fit.

There are things that cannot be undone, but you can help carry what weighs more and more every day
