Tangible symptoms
For the first time, Lucyna felt a disturbing thickening in her breast in March 2025. It was not a lesion that could be ignored, as it grew larger almost daily. At the same time, a pain in her hand appeared, accompanied by numbness. Anxiety grew with each passing moment, and the inner conviction that something serious was happening grew stronger.
Lucyna, who lives in a small town near Poznań, didn't want to wait with the naive hope that everything would pass on its own. She knew that only a consultation and specialized tests could bring answers to the questions that were increasingly swirling in her head.

The results left no illusions - G3 triple-negative adenocarcinoma of the breast with infiltration in the axillary lymph node. The diagnosis was unequivocal and required immediate action.
Systemic treatment began immediately after diagnosis. A left subcutaneous mastectomy along with an axillary lymphadenectomy was performed on October 14, 2025. Now Lucienna still faces postoperative radiation therapy.
The price the body pays for life
Lucyna underwent two cycles of therapy with pembrolizumab, an immune drug used to treat cancer. However, the treatment had to be discontinued due to severe side effects. She developed palpitations during treatment and later developed severe hypothyroidism.
The next step was chemotherapy with carboplatin and paclitaxel. Already on the second infusion, an allergic reaction occurred, manifested by facial redness, rash and difficulty breathing. This required immediate intervention and a change in treatment regimen.
Doctors decided to introduce therapy based on cyclophosphamide and doxorubicin. This treatment, also proved to be extremely taxing on the body. Lucyna struggled with severe stomach discomfort, facial swelling, insomnia, numbness in her arms and legs and rapid fatigue. High TSH levels, indicative of a dysfunctional thyroid gland, forced the withholding of further infusions for five weeks and the need for ongoing endocrine care.
The body sets limits
The disease and intensive treatment have left numerous repercussions. Lucyna struggles with hypothyroidism, gallstones and a herniated intervertebral disc, which causes pressure on the spinal cord and limits her mobility. After the operation, she also developed swelling and a lymphatic cord in her hand, causing severe pain whenever she lifts the limb. This restriction hinders daily functioning, takes away freedom of movement and requires regular drains from a physiotherapist.
Every daily activity, even something as simple as getting dressed, putting on shoes or climbing stairs, has become an effort requiring careful distribution of strength.
Between care and everyday life
Lucyna is currently staying at home, where all responsibilities have been taken over by her husband and older children. She has remained on sick leave since the beginning of her treatment. Family life has been entirely subordinated to the rhythm imposed by the successive stages of therapy.
In this order, they seek stability and a substitute for ordinary life, which allows them to breathe away from the disease for a while. The eldest son Alan, nineteen, and fourteen-year-old Charles have taken their mother's illness very seriously.

They are present, they help, they try to be supportive, although at their age it's a burden too heavy to bear without fear. Lucyna worries that the illness will distract them from studying and preparing for exams. The youngest son, five-year-old Christopher, understands only as much as a child his age can. He sees the suffering and reacts in his own way, hugging, looking on with concern, making small gestures that mean more to her than words.
Purpose of the collection
The funds raised will be used for psychological care for the children and husband, rehabilitation, transportation to medical appointments and physiotherapist, as well as the purchase of medical equipment, medicines and specialist consultations. Any support will allow Lucienna and her family to maintain their equilibrium at a time when all their energies are focused on fighting the disease and maintaining their home, which is still their common point of support.
