The battle against cancer has been going on for nine years.
In December 2016, when Kevin was fifteen years old, he began experiencing pain in his right knee and tibia. Soon, a tumor became visible. A biopsy performed in January 2017 confirmed the diagnosis: osteosarcoma of the right tibia. Chemotherapy was started immediately , followed by surgery to remove the tumor and tibial endoprosthesis with knee joint reconstruction. This was not the end of the disease . It was the beginning of a journey that would take up the next few years of his adolescence.
The disease returned despite treatment.
In the following years, there were pulmonary recurrences in 2019, 2021, and 2022, each of which meant a return to hospital wards, further treatments, and reacquaintance with a fear that never goes away for long.
In 2023, Kewin underwent bilateral thoracotomies. In February 2024, a resection of the middle lobe of the right lung was performed, along with the removal of surrounding lymph nodes. A month later, the disease returned again. The body was forced to fight again and again, as if it were not given time to rest.
The disease began to take away my abilities.
In September 2025 , metastasis to the right ulna was diagnosed. In December, the decision was made to amputate his right upper limb. At the age of 24, Kewin must learn to live without his dominant hand.
It is not just a loss of mobility. It is a change in every daily gesture, the need to learn the world anew, and to face the feeling of lost independence.
Treatment is still ongoing
Targeted treatment and genetic testing of the tumor are planned, which may enable the selection of the therapy best suited to the nature of the disease. Kewin also struggles with hypertension and heart rhythm disorders, which further complicates the treatment process and requires special care.
Everyday life requires patience
The life of a young man today is different from that of his peers. Many activities require the help of loved ones. Even simple tasks take time, patience, and repeated attempts.
In his free time, Kewin plays computer games and builds LEGO blocks with the help of his loved ones. These moments allow him to take his mind off his illness for a while and maintain a sense of closeness.
What may change in the near future
The funds raised will be used for targeted treatment, genetic testing of the tumor, and a prosthetic hand, which will increase independence and facilitate everyday functioning.
