Update
Hope in the Face of Uncertainty
For over a month now, Katarzyna has been visiting a hospital in Warsaw regularly to receive her next round of treatment. It’s a time filled with hope, but also with quiet anxiety. Will the chemotherapy work?If not, another option has emerged—one that’s just as uncertain. Chemotherapy that isn’t covered by insurance is another possibility that doctors may choose for Katarzyna’s treatment. For now, Kasia is continuing with her current treatment. She hopes it will yield positive results. April 17, 2026

Diagnosis
In November 2021, Katarzyna was diagnosed with breast cancer. Initially, there was only one tumor and hope that intensive treatment would stop the disease. However , it quickly became apparent that the cancer was much more aggressive.
The detection of a BRCA2 gene mutation necessitated radical therapeutic decisions. In 2022, Katarzyna underwent very demanding oncological treatment, including four cycles of red chemotherapy, twelve cycles of white chemotherapy, and twenty cycles of radiotherapy. In July of the same year , a double mastectomy with reconstruction was performed in Lublin , removing both breasts due to high genetic risk.
Metastases and the next stage of the fight
In November 2024, the disease returned in its most severe form. The cancer spread, metastasizing to the bones, stomach, peritoneum, uterus, and bladder. Katarzyna was eligible to participate in a clinical trial, but the therapy did not produce the expected results.
It was necessary to implement another intensive chemotherapy treatment. Katarzyna underwent seven cycles of treatment, comprising a total of twenty-one chemotherapy sessions, which were completed in October 2025.
Fighting for each day
After a brief period of stabilization, the disease progressed again in December. Katarzyna currently requires parenteral nutrition, preparation for the next chemotherapy session, and urgent surgery on her femur, which is at risk of fracture.
This is accompanied by serious complications, including recurrent intestinal obstruction and renal stasis, requiring constant monitoring and medical care. The body is under extreme stress, and every therapeutic decision must be made with extreme caution.
Mother and son at the center of the battle
Katarzyna is raising her 11-year-old son, who is on the autism spectrum and requires constant emotional support and therapy, on her own. During hospitalizations, the boy's grandmother takes care of him, helping the family maintain their daily balance. The illness has robbed Katarzyna of her ability to work and function independently. Every day is a balancing act between treatment and trying to maintain a sense of security for her child.
Join this fight
The fundraiser aims to enable further treatment, access to non-refundable medications, private consultations, rehabilitation, and psychological care for Katarzyna and her son. Treatment abroad is also being considered, if such an opportunity arises. Every contribution is a real help in the fight for the young woman's life and her child's future.
