"What I fear most is that I won't be able to keep my son safe. I have to fight for him."

The body gave the signal to fight

Katarzyna's everyday life had its own established rhythm. Work, home, time spent with her beloved son, and small, ordinary pleasures created a world that gave her a sense of control, stability, and peace. It was a sufficient, settled, and safe life.
The first symptoms appeared in March 2025. Intermenstrual bleeding, which initially did not seem dramatic, prompted her to visit a gynecologist. Subsequent tests and consultations, with each new result, gradually brought Katarzyna closer to a breathtaking diagnosis.

Diagnosis

The diagnosis came in May and forced Katarzyna to look at the future in a completely new way. Malignant cervical cancer, stage IIIC1 according to the FIGO classification. Invasive squamous cell carcinoma G2 with metastases to nearby lymph nodes was diagnosed . The disease proved to be inoperable.

"I heard that I couldn't have surgery. At that moment, I felt as if the ground had fallen away beneath my feet."
Everyday life subordinated to treatment

Treatment began at the Lower Silesian Center for Oncology, Pulmonology, and Hematology in Wrocław. Imaging tests, including magnetic resonance imaging of the pelvis, computed tomography, and PET scanning, confirmed the advanced stage of the disease.

From June 30 to August 8, 2025, Katarzyna underwent teleradiotherapy in 25 fractions, covering the reproductive organ area. At the same time, chemotherapy with cisplatin was administered in a total dose of 459.2 mg. The treatment was supplemented with brachytherapy administered in four fractions between July 31 and August 21.

Those were weeks of extreme exhaustion, pain, and physical weakness. Every day was devoted to treatment and the struggle to keep the body going through the next stages of therapy.

An organism overwhelmed by disease

Katarzyna also struggles with comorbidities. Kidney stones, psoriasis, psoriatic arthritis, chronic gastritis, and degenerative changes in the lower spine further burden her body, already weakened by cancer treatment.

Getting back to normal takes time, rehab, and ongoing support from specialists. Without them, everyday life gets harder and harder.

Life after diagnosis

During her treatment , her employer did not renew Katarzyna's employment contract. She is currently receiving rehabilitation benefits. She is supporting her 18-year-old son, who is continuing his education in high school and does not receive a pension from his deceased father.

Every day is a balancing act between treatment, limited financial resources, and responsibility for a child who still needs stability, presence, and a sense of security.

Why support is needed

Katarzyna's situation is extremely difficult. The combination of illness, job loss, and single motherhood makes the burden of everyday life overwhelming. There is a fear that the moment will come when she will have to make painful choices between what is urgent and what is necessary.

Psychological support, rehabilitation, and non-refundable medications are real needs for which there are simply no funds in the current situation. Let's help Katarzyna regain her balance and strength so that she never has to choose between her own health and the safety of her son.

Katarzyna's struggle is not only about her health, but also about ensuring that her illness does not take away her son's only source of support.
