Unnamed pain
The first symptoms appeared over three years ago and were disturbing from the very beginning. It was a strong, growing pain that gradually robbed Asia of her daily freedom, changing the rhythm of life for the whole family. In search of answers , her loved ones traveled hundreds of kilometers, visiting doctors, clinics, and cities, hoping that someone would finally be able to diagnose what was happening to their child.
For a long time, the real cause remained invisible, and the possibility of cancer was consistently ruled out. Even more than six months of treatment in Krakow did not lead to a diagnosis. This time, which is crucial in oncology, passed without effective intervention, while the disease developed almost unnoticed and the girl's condition worsened from month to month.
The diagnosis came too late
The road to diagnosis proved to be dramatically long. By the time the diagnosis was finally made, the disease was already very advanced. Asia was diagnosed with malignant, disseminated Ewing's sarcoma. The primary lesion was located in the left femur, and the resulting changes had already spread to the skull bones with intracranial and extracranial components, the right femur, the pelvic bones, and numerous lesions in the lungs.
The moment of diagnosis brought not only shock, but also the need for immediate intensive treatment. There was no room for hesitation or time to come to terms with this reality. Action was what mattered.
Operations and treatment without respite
On April 18, 2025, Asia underwent extensive surgery in Szczecin. A tumor resection was performed along with part of the proximal left femur and a left hip joint replacement. It was another stage in the battle fought hundreds of kilometers from home.
Two months later, at the Children's Health Center in Warsaw, a right frontal-parietal craniectomy and removal of a tumor infiltrating the dura mater were performed. Skull and dura mater reconstruction was performed, the lesion in the right parietal region was removed, and a Codubix implant was inserted.
Asia remains in intensive oncological treatment and has undergone a total of twenty cycles of chemotherapy. After the fourteenth cycle, the disease progressed and new lesions appeared in her lungs, which necessitated the implementation of another six cycles. Asia is currently undergoing follow-up tests to determine the further course of treatment.
The price of treatment recorded at every step
The advanced stage of the disease and previous surgeries have leftlasting consequences. The operated leg is now about 1.5 cm shorter, which significantly impedes movement and requires daily, intensive rehabilitation. At the same time, Asia remains under constant cardiological care due to the deterioration of the left ventricular systolic function and QT prolongation.
Treatment is mainly carried out in Warsaw, about 300 kilometers from home, and some consultations and procedures also take place in Szczecin, almost 800 kilometers from home. Long journeys, hospitalizations, and long stays away from home have become an everyday occurrence, leaving no room for normal life.
The family facing illness
Asia has a twin sister and an older brother. Each of them deals with the situation in their own way, trying to be close and maintain a semblance of calm, although the whole family is constantly worried about Asia's health. The home is filled with constant tension, fatigue, and emotional stress, which eventually permeates all everyday matters.
Loved ones try to maintain normality, take care of each other, and not stray from the roles imposed by life, even though the disease requires constant readiness, continuous organization, and frequent trips to distant treatment centers. This reality has an impact on the rhythm of work, the stability of everyday life, and the sense of security, which is inevitably disrupted in families affected by cancer.
This family needs help.
The fundraiser was created to help the family cover the costs that are unavoidable with such long and intensive treatment. The funds will be used for non-reimbursable medications, intensive rehabilitation, transportation for frequent visits and hospitalizations, as well as accommodation and covering living expenses during stays away from home.
Psychological support for Asia and her loved ones is also needed, as well as supplements to support the body during therapy and other hospital-related costs, which in this reality are not an extra, but a daily necessity. Every form of help is a huge and invaluable support in a struggle that is extremely difficult and ongoing.
