The time of peace we want to save
Dorothy, knocking off, is feeling fine for the moment. Taking advantage of the warm days and the temporary remoteness of seasonal infections, the family is trying to live simply: with joy, with gratitude, with attentiveness to every quiet moment. They even managed to get away to the sea for a few days. The weather did not spoil, but Dorothy's smile was enough to make each day taste like a holiday.Treatment continues
Currently, Dorotka is continuing treatment to maintain remission of the disease. Six months of this stage have just passed, and there are still about ten months of daily struggle ahead for the girl and her family. Oral chemotherapy accompanies Dorotka every day. Although her small body is handling the burden bravely, her liver is feeling the effects of the treatment. Appropriate shielding medications have been implemented, and the diet has been strictly adjusted to the body's needs. The next inspection is coming soon
On July 29, Dorothy will appear for another check-up at the clinic. This is one of many milestones that will assess how the body tolerates treatment and whether it manages to maintain a state of remission. July 18, 2025
Explore the history of
The illness came suddenly. Time stood still.
Dorothy, a girl full of life, sensitivity and childlike passion, suffered a minor muscle injury during a dance class. That's how the story could begin: ordinary, unhurried, with the prospect of getting back in shape and training again. A medical check-up, ordered tests, and a worrisome but not yet alarming result: a slight drop in hemoglobin. Supplementation was recommended. Nothing yet heralded the drama going on beneath the surface.
A few weeks later , everything began to change. Dorothy spoke incoherently, lost her orientation, stopped recognizing loved ones, household objects, her own daily life. On the night that could have turned out to be her last, the girl was taken to the hospital emergency room. The body, until recently full of life, was now quiet and devoid of strength. Hemoglobin, responsible for transporting oxygen, had dropped to a level at which the body stops fighting. It's a miracle it arrived in time. The doctors left no illusions: she was one step away from death.
The fight for life
In just a few hours, a blood transfusion was performed and life-saving measures were implemented. Dorotka was then transported to the Hematology Clinic in Wroclaw. The first three days of hospitalization flowed in a rhythm other than time. The hours slowed down, stretching into a tension that made it impossible to breathe. Every wait, every lack of information heightened the fear - that paralyzing, deep-bodied fear that tightens the throat at the mere thought that the child's life could be in danger.
The diagnosis came suddenly
Acute lymphoblastic leukemia. And then time sped up again - inexorably, as if it wanted to catch up with the disease, which was progressing at an alarming rate. Treatment began immediately. Scheduled for two years, chemotherapy is already making its painful imprint on Dorothea: severe leg pains, weakness, fatigue... and that chronic lack of relief that cannot be soothed.
Therapy at home. A different kind of everyday life
Part of the treatment can now take place at home, which brings symbolic relief. In the future, rehabilitation will be needed so that Dorotka can not only recover, but also regain her full strength and fitness.
Love is not enough. The need for support
Dorothy's family lives in limbo. Every day is a constant concern - for health, for funds for treatment, for a smile, which lately has been less frequent on the child's face.
