Decisive days before endoprosthesis
Although the decision to implant the endoprosthesis has already been made, Dominika is still waiting for a specific date to be set for the operation. At present, it is necessary for her to complete her previous dental treatment and fully heal after the last surgery, which are prerequisites for her admission to this complicated orthopedic surgery.Once healing is complete, doctors will be able to set a date for bilateral hip replacement surgery. Dominica has another battle ahead❗This time for fitness and independence.
After years of pain and debilitation, Dominica faced another extremely important challenge. At a recent orthopedic appointment, the decision was made: her disintegrating hips must be operated on immediately! This is the last possible moment to perform the endoprosthesis procedure and save this young woman from permanent immobilization. The innovative, minimally invasive surgery, performed at Poland's only private clinic in Nieborowice, offers a chance to return to fitness. During a single surgery, doctors will implant both endoprostheses, allowing Dominika to get out of her wheelchair the very next day. This is a breakthrough and a great hope for her. Explore the history of
A struggle that has continued uninterrupted for 15 years
Even as a five-year-old girl, she heard her first diagnosis. PNET of the spinal cord, or malignant tumor of the central nervous system. A life full of hospital rooms, pain and unspeakable fear began. But there also came a time of victory. The cancer was gone, leaving her body not only scarred, but vulnerable to further blows.
Another cancer strike - much more brutal
Dominika was finally starting to come back to herself when another diagnosis was made : acute myeloid leukemia. The rescue was to be a bone marrow transplant, which, as intended, saved her life. Its consequences, however, were disastrous. GVHD, or graft-versus-host disease, attacked her body from the inside out.
Dominica began to lose bones, and literally. Necrosis, pain, progressive destruction. Liver, intestinal and skin problems. The list of specialists grew month by month.
And then she stopped talking...
It seems unbelievable, but in 2022 another cancer has appeared ! Squamous cell carcinoma of the tongue. Doctors removed part of the tongue and lymph nodes, and inserted a tracheostomy. The young woman had to start learning to live again. Two years passed and...the disease returned! This time the entire tongue was removed, reconstruction was performed, and more lymph nodes were cut out.
What does Dominica's life look like today? Despite the fact that her body has been subjected to the toughest tests, despite the fact that she does not speak, does not eat and does not breathe on her own - she LIVES!
Cancer took away her voice, her tongue, her health and her breath. However, it did not take away the strength to keep fighting.
Dominica's daily life is a constant struggle
She feeds through a gastrostomy, breathes through a tube and is learning to speak again. Her needs are great! To finally not feel pain with every step, she needs a hip endoprosthesis. After chemotherapy and radiation therapy, expensive dental surgery is necessary.
And not counting the constant specialized consultations with an endocrinologist, orthopedist or cardiologist, Dominica requires intensive rehabilitation.
Dominika wants to live!
Although the disease has taken so much from her, Dominika still wants to experience the world. To taste it in every possible way.
