Illness prevented me from closing the chapter.

Malignant breast cancer appeared in Barbara's life in January 2018. Treatment included breast surgery with lymph node removal, radiation therapy, and hormone therapy. For a long time, it seemed that the most difficult stage was behind her. However, this peace of mind turned out to be illusory.

In August, the disease began to manifest itself again. A recurrence of unknown nature appeared in the same breast . Barbara also sought treatment in Germany, looking for answers and options for further treatment. The following months were marked by tests, waiting, and growing tension, which prevented her from regaining a sense of security.

Waiting, which is more exhausting than pain

A contrast-enhanced MRI scan was performed. Barbara was consulted by a surgical oncologist. The scenario for the next, very difficult stage of treatment is becoming increasingly clear. It will most likely be necessary to remove her breast. The worst is still ahead of her.

On January 21, Barbara is going to Poznań, where doctors will determine the exact type of cancer and plan further treatment. She has been waiting for this appointment for months. Traveling is a huge physical and mental burden for her, especially since each trip is associated with pain and exhaustion.

The body remembers everything

Barbara has been struggling with severe pain in her spine and right arm, vision problems, insomnia, and weight loss for years. Cancer is not the only burden she faces, but it is the one that combines all her other difficulties into one constant struggle to survive each day.

It is a life in limbo, where it is difficult to make plans and even more difficult to relax, because your body and mind will not let you forget that the threat is still real.

Responsibility cannot be postponed

Barbara lives with her mother, who herself requires constant care. Even in moments of greatest weakness, she cannot allow herself to stop completely. Every day is a struggle to reconcile her own illness with her responsibility for another person.

In this daily routine, there is no room for rest without feeling guilty. There are only more responsibilities, visits, medications, and questions that still remain unanswered.

Why we are asking for your support

Barbara is facing the next stage of treatment, which involves considerable physical, emotional, and financial strain. Travel to Poznań, tests, medication, and daily expenses are beginning to exceed the means of someone who has been living in constant tension and pain for months.

This fundraiser is to help a woman who is once again facing cancer. It is support that can give her a moment of respite and the feeling that she is not alone on this journey.

Illness does not always end when the doctor's office door closes. Sometimes that is when it begins to demand all the strength we have left.
