Update

A time of recovery. Attention time.
Alicia continues to receive ongoing oncological and endocrinological care. One of the most severe complications of her treatment was progressive hearing loss. Today, with great relief and cautious joy, we can report good news. Alicia's hearing has stabilized. The need to wear a hearing aid has ceased. This is a significant step forward that restores hope and allows us to breathe more fully.

In parallel, the battle against another side effect - stunted growth - continued. Hormone therapy brought visible results: Alicia has grown. The treatment will continue until her bone age, currently estimated at 10 years, catches up with the actual one. Alicia is now 14.

July 17, 2025 Alicia struggles with permanent damage to her auditory nerves, which makes it difficult for her to understand some sounds and conversations. Although doctors have not recommended a hearing aid for now, regular check-ups are necessary - Alicia goes for hearing tests every six months. The girl also takes B vitamins, which can aid nerve regeneration, although there is no guarantee of their effectiveness. Ongoing medical care, however, offers hope for improvement. November 8, 2024
Alicia is by nature a very cheerful child. However, the hard experiences brought on by cancer have left a mark on her psyche. Instead of enjoying life and making friends at school, she fought an uneven battle with pituitary tumor. The return to reality after the disease is not easy and our Warrior Woman has become closed to new people, not very fond of externalizing herself. Despite these difficulties, she still bravely faces the side effects of treatment. She continues to go for more medical appointments and check-ups. Alicia's hearing has been particularly affected, and her pituitary gland is also not working properly. The girl is taking a number of medications to improve her daily functioning. It is impossible to say clearly how much longer it will take to combat the side effects of chemotherapy and radiation therapy. The situation is dynamic, but Alicia and her Mom are very bravely taking the next steps forward. In addition to rehabilitation, the Warrior Woman needs psychological support to cope more smoothly with her return to normalcy. We encourage you to continue supporting our charge! Each donation helps cover the cost of ongoing medical visits, commuting and other expenses related to Alicia's current condition. October 7, 2024
Alicia completed her oncology treatment three years ago. Since then, she has been systematically taking the next steps toward a return to normalcy. Despite the end of her hospitalization, regular check-ups are a must. She still has to undergo MRIs twice a year to control the situation. Unfortunately, the pituitary gland is still not working and it is necessary to support herself with pills to help improve this situation. In addition, our Warrior Woman takes growth hormone daily in the form of injections, such therapy has already lasted 9 months. This allows her to grow. She is doing well in school, she even managed to get a certificate with distinction. Due to her condition, she is not a very well-liked person in class, which causes her a lot of annoyance. The treatment has also brought a lot of side effects, among which the hearing problem stands out in particular. This is the result of prolonged radiation therapy and subsequent inflammation of the sinuses, ears and larynx. Alicia remains under constant ENT monitoring. The brave warrior girl still needs support to cover the costs of travel to medical check-ups, specialized advice and private visits, thanks to which she gains the opportunity to return to normalcy. Let's help this incredibly strong girl overcome the next very important steps in the fight for her life! July 19, 2024

The diagnosis was a blow

In February 2021, Alicia began to withdraw from daily life. Her disappearing appetite, increasing weakness and quiet absence, so recognizable to her loved ones, caused increasing concern. Soon more symptoms appeared - the pandemic had arrived, and with it COVID-19 infection. The disease took an unusual course in Alice: a high fever, and then something much more serious. The girl suddenly stopped responding. She couldn't hear her voice, couldn't feel touch. There was no contact with her at all.
Imaging studies showed lesions in the pituitary gland. The biopsy left no illusions: germinoma - a cancer of the central nervous system.

Treatment began immediately. Alicia underwent cycles of chemotherapy, followed by radiation therapy. For many months, everything was subordinated to the fight against the disease, pain, and fatigue, which did not go away.

Germinoma - acancerthat has invadedthepituitary gland.

On August 14, 2021, three days before her tenth birthday, Alicia completed her treatment. Although months have passed, the disease has not passed without a trace. Its echoes still reverberate in the body and in everyday life.

The treatment has come to an end. The shadow of the disease still lingers

Although the therapy has been completed, Alicia's life is still under the shadow of vigilance. Every three months, the girl undergoes MRIs and remains under constant oncological supervision. Each day follows a precise rhythm - determined by the dosage of drugs that support her body and allow her to function despite the difficult experience.

The disease, although it has retreated from the clinical picture, has left a lasting mark. Alicia gradually lost her hearing. Initially, no one linked this symptom to the treatment. Today it is known to be one of its late effects - silent, insidious and unpredictable. It is difficult to say how profound the hearing loss will turn out to be. What remains is observation, time, and attentive care by specialists, which does not allow one to lose sight of any signal.

The cancer has passed. But it has not left her without a trace.
