The first signal did not sound like a warning.
In October 2020, Sylwia felt a small lump under her arm. A biopsy performed in December diagnosed her with synovial sarcoma.
Imaging tests revealed an extensive lesion in her chest, involving soft tissue and a rib. Treatment began immediately, before she had time to come to terms with the diagnosis.
Intensive care and surgery to close this chapter
In 2021, Sylwia underwent six courses of chemotherapy. In July, she underwent extensive surgery to remove the tumor, part of her lung, and fragments of her ribs.
It was a moment when hope emerged that the most difficult chapter had been closed.
The illness returned in an unexpected place.
Follow-up tests in 2024 revealed a change in the pancreas. Further diagnostics confirmed the recurrence of sarcoma. Another chemotherapy treatment lasting several months began.
Hope appeared, followed by further uncertainty.
In the summer of 2025, tests showed a marked improvement. The cancerous changes had regressed significantly, and the tumor had become almost invisible.
However, the following months brought new complications. The latest CT scan showed a recurrence of infiltration in the head of the pancreas and a change in the liver. Sylwia is awaiting further decisions regarding her treatment.
Life between hope and relapse
Illness is no longer a one-time experience. It has become a process that recurs from time to time and reorganizes everyday life.
Sylwia is staying at home under the care of her loved ones. Her planned return to work had to be postponed. Instead of returning to stability, she had to extend her rehabilitation benefits and face the reality of her illness once again.
Fatigue that is not visible in test results
Long-term treatment leaves its mark not only on the body. It is accompanied by tension, fear of the future, and a feeling of living in limbo between successive tests.
It is an experience that is difficult to describe in numbers or results. It requires mental strength as great as that needed to undergo therapy.
What helps you stay true to yourself
Sylwia has always been an active person with a curiosity about the world. She reads books, enjoys traveling, and takes care of her physical fitness. Movement and activity gave her a sense of balance and control over her own life.
The illness limited these possibilities, but it did not take away her need to live life to the fullest and her hope of returning to what had been her everyday life.
The body fights, but this long duration saps its strength.
Repeated relapses and living in constant uncertainty create a burden that goes beyond the physical realm. It is also an emotional effort, requiring constant psychological support and the feeling that the burden does not rest solely on one person.
