The pain appeared at night.
Romek was one of those children who were difficult to keep still. A ball, a backyard, and the freedom that childhood cannot exist without.
In November, the pain appeared . At first, it woke him up at night, then it became so strong that it kept him awake. His parents watched their eleven-year-old son try to find a position in which the pain would stop, at least for a moment.
Two long nights were enough for them to realize that they couldn't wait any longer. Another night in this condition would be unbearable. The decision to go to the emergency room was the only one possible. They didn't want their child to suffer for even an hour longer.
It was November 25, 2025. The diagnosis led to a biopsy, which provided the answer to the question of the source of the pain. A tumor in the right femur. Osteosarcoma.
Silence after hearing the name
The moment of diagnosis muffled the sounds and filled the space with silence, making it difficult to collect my thoughts. The word "cancer" changes your perspective in an instant.
The pace of events immediately accelerated. Treatment was implemented without delay.
Romek is finishing his sixth cycle of chemotherapy today. Each cycle brings complications: vomiting, severe weakness, digestive problems, and a sharp drop in blood parameters requiring transfusions.
His body is learning to endure more than it should at this age. The next stage of treatment will be surgery.
Between the ward and home
During chemotherapy, Romek spends several days in the hospital with his mother. Then he returns home, where his parents take care of him together.
Today, their lives unfold between the hospital ward and home, between hope and exhaustion, in the repetitiveness of days devoted to treatment.
The family and experience
The emotional state of the family is no longer as calm as it used to be. Their faith and mutual presence keep them going.
It is not only the parents who are affected by the illness. Romek's siblings experience fear and helplessness in the face of what is happening to their brother. There is also regret that he has to go through suffering that no one can take away from him.
The most difficult looks
The most difficult things are not the procedures or the fatigue. The biggest challenge is watching my son suffer.
Romek has not stopped being a child. He has not stopped looking to the future.
Today, he needs treatment, care, and support so that life will still be waiting for him on the other side of this experience. A life in which he can sleep peacefully again.
