Fighting from the first breath
Peter was born on February 15, 2024. That day was a moment of great happiness for his parents and four siblings, which, however, was very quickly interrupted by a dramatic diagnosis. In the very first hours of life, doctors diagnosed acute myeloid leukemia.
The words spoken at that moment squeezed parents' hearts and fell like thunder, shattering dreams of peaceful parenthood and throwing the entire family into a reality full of fear, suffering and struggle for each day.
Fight to the rhythm of chemotherapy
Currently, Peter still faces three out of five blocks of chemotherapy. Each cycle means fevers, vomiting and weakness, which his tiny body must contend with. Treatment is being carried out at the University Clinical Center of the Warsaw Medical University and the Bielański Hospital, where Piotruś spends most of his childhood.
Diseases that pile up suffering
Leukemia is not the only burden he carries. Peter also struggles with Down syndrome and bilateral deafness. He requires constant rehabilitation, as well as cardiac and neurological care. Each of these health problems brings further limitations and further weakens his body.
Family torn apart by illness
Peter has four siblings. The eldest sister sees him only through a webcam, the youngest daughter was so badly affected by the separation that she ended up in the hospital for nervousness.
Dad, a firefighter with the Plecewice Volunteer Fire Department, lost his professional job and today tries to combine caring for his children with fighting for his son's health. One child's illness has become a drama for the entire family, whose daily life is torn between home and the hospital.
Difficult everyday life
Every day of Peter's life is rehabilitation, fighting fever and side effects of chemotherapy. Instead of play and first steps - drips, fatigue and a hospital bed. His childhood is not carefree, but a constant fight for life.
