A diagnosis that came completely out of the blue
Paula's illness appeared suddenly, without any prior warning signs. There was no indication that this day would go down in the family's history in such a dramatic way. It all started with a minor incident. Paula was playing at home and sat on the washing machine to look in the mirror. She slipped and hit the left side of her torso. The pain quickly subsided and did not seem serious, so the girl went to kindergarten as usual.
A few hours later, the peace was interrupted by a phone call from the nursery. Paula's mother was told that Paula had started bleeding when she went to the toilet. Without hesitation, she picked up her daughter and immediately drove to the Emergency Department at the hospital in Brzeg. There, an ultrasound scan was performed, which changed everything. The image left no room for doubt. A Wilms' tumor was diagnosed.
From the emergency room in Brzeg, Paula was referred to Opole, to the pediatric surgery ward. There, a series of additional tests were performed, which confirmed the presence of a tumor. It was not until the next day that Paula was transported to Przylądek Nadziei (Cape of Hope) in Wrocław.
Only a few dozen hours passed between an ordinary morning and the reality of hospital wards. This is how a journey began that no one was prepared for.
Treatment started immediately
On Monday, Paula received her first chemotherapy treatment. The treatment began without delay. The girl does not tolerate chemotherapy well, experiencing headaches, nervousness, and weakness. Fortunately, her previous symptoms have subsided, and after the first chemotherapy treatment, doctors noticed a reduction in the tumor, which gives us great hope.
At the moment, Paula is undergoing chemotherapy. The plan is for four cycles, after which the doctors will decide whether surgery will be necessary.
The treatment takes place in Wrocław. Paula's mother is currently on sick leave, devoting herself entirely to caring for her daughter. Everyday life is filled with fear of the pain that Paula may experience and anxiety about what each new day will bring. The biggest challenge remains the uncertainty of how Paula will tolerate subsequent treatment cycles and how the future will unfold.
Small passions that bring joy
Despite her illness, Paula remains a cheerful child. She loves drawing, painting, playing with play dough, singing, and dancing. These little moments of joy allow her to take a break from her treatment and give her the strength to continue fighting.
The funds raised will be used to purchase non-refundable medications, rehabilitation, and psychological care, which are extremely important during cancer treatment and recovery. Every donation provides real help and support for Paula and her mother on this difficult journey. Thanks to you, Paula will not be alone in this fight.
