The sound of victory❗
On October 6, 2025, the most beautiful and eagerly awaited sound of our charges - the sound of the victory bell - resounded in Cape Hope. The symbolic triple strike is always an extremely moving moment.
It was no different this time, too, when our indomitable warrior Olivier announced that his treatment had come to an end. This sound is more than just a sign of the end of treatment. It echoes the courage, strength and faith that carried Olivier through his most difficult moments for months.
From the relapse of acute lymphoblastic leukemia in 2022 to receiving the last dose of chemotherapy in July 2025 was a long time - a difficult, demanding time, full of struggle and perseverance.

Joy with a touch of fear
The end of treatment is a victory, but not the end of the vigil. Olivier, due to his genetic burden - the DICER1 mutation - is still under constant monitoring by doctors.
This mutation increases the risk of cancer, so the fear of recurrence never completely disappears. Caution and vigilance have become part of daily life, where gratitude for each healthy day is mixed with fear that the disease will never return.Checks, diagnostics and health concerns
Although the victory bell has declared the end of treatment, it is not the end of the road. Follow-up visits to Cape Hope, diagnostics and health concerns are still a part of Oliver and his family's life.
Any form of support is still extremely valuable. It's a real help to maintain the continuity of treatment, cover the costs of research, travel and rehabilitation. It's also a chance to slowly rebuild daily life after years of anxiety, fear and sacrifice. October 6, 2025 Olivier is fighting a recurrence of the disease. Funds are urgently needed to purchase an unreimbursed drug❗. Nearly two years ago, Olivier heard the diagnosis of a relapse. Acute lymphoblastic leukemia, which he had already beaten once (as a two-year-old!), returned in 2022. Another cycle of treatment has begun, and he is currently on maintenance chemotherapy. Although our Mentee should already be recuperating peacefully in his own home, his health situation forces him to come to "Cape of Hope" more and more often. This is extremely important, because during his visits to the clinic Olivier undergoes tests, blood rolling and platelet administration to strengthen his body. Olie's health condition is increasingly worrying his parents. Maintenance chemotherapy is also causing hemoglobin and platelet levels to drop. However, this causes a bit of a "vicious cycle," because the more often the blood rolling occurs, the more the levels of ferratin (an iron storage protein) in the body increase. Then our Podiatrist has to take the drug Exferana, which chelates iron (removes excess iron). This is an unreimbursed drug, the cost of which is about 450 zloty for one package. Frequent visits to the clinic also consume large amounts of money. Currently, Oliver's parents are struggling not only with great fear for the life and health of their beloved son, but also with financial problems, due to the long-term treatment. No one knows how long Oli's uneven fight against leukemia relapse will last, so we encourage you with all our strength to support this brave and fearless family! Olivier and his Mom are once again visiting the hematology department at "Cape of Hope". Soon the teenager will undergo another LP, after which it will probably be possible to diagnose the reasons for the long-term lack of improvement in our Warrior's health. Let's help Olie and his parents get through this extremely stressful and challenging period! Every donation allows them to cover the growing costs. October 3, 2024

Chemotherapy treatment went well and he was cured in 2013.
After 12 years, the disease returned. In December 2022, Oliver was diagnosed with a relapse of acute lymphoblastic leukemia and is currently undergoing chemotherapy treatment. Once he goes through it well, once worse. He is often very weakened and sad, although he tries to fight the leukemia with all his strength.
A year has passed since the beginning of treatment at "Cape of Hope". It has been a difficult year for our Warrior. Although his mood is sometimes fluctuating, he has the will to fight the disease, does not give up and wants to win!
Olivier is now undergoing maintenance treatment. It is no longer as taxing as before. The boy's illness has forced his parents to make many changes in their daily life. These changes have had a very significant impact on the family's deteriorating financial situation.
We encourage you to support Oliver, because every contribution, even the smallest one, is very important. Let's help our Warrior beat the disease for the second time!
