Active, joyful and curious about the world. This is how Oleksandr is remembered by his loved ones, describing the time before the disease, which appeared suddenly, just before the start of an important stage in his life, which was to be the start of school. The boy was counting down the days until that moment, full of excitement and childlike energy.
The symptoms that began to appear seemed at first to be the usual result of fatigue or a cold. The accompanying fever persisted for several days, but at first was of little concern. It was only when the medications stopped working and the temperature did not subside that a decision was made to consult a doctor and perform basic tests. The diagnosis, which emerged after analyzing the results, crushed the boy's loved ones with its weight: acute lymphoblastic leukemia.
Between life and death
The disease progressed rapidly, as if it suddenly took complete control of the boy's body. The kidneys stopped working, and the body was losing strength day by day. Sepsis appeared - a condition that required immediate intervention.
Oleksandr ended up in the intensive care unit, where he spent six long days. For his mother, it was a time in which every second lasted an eternity. She kept vigil behind closed doors, praying that her child would once again open his eyes. Finally, it happened.
Every gesture of support brings you closer to the end of the road, at the end of which victory awaits.
The boy's condition stabilized enough for him to return to the ward. Then the treatment proper began. The first cycles of chemotherapy, check-ups and preparations for the next stages of treatment. In the meantime, surgery to remove his appendix was also required, which, although routine, carried a high risk in his condition.
Recovery time
Today, the family still has many months of treatment and rehabilitation ahead . Every day is a test of strength, accompanied by pain, fatigue and fear, which does not leave the boy's loved ones even for a moment. Oleksandr requires constant treatment, medications, medical equipment and specialized care that will allow him to recover step by step.
The funds raised will be used for treatment, rehabilitation, transportation, medications and daily needs, which have become an integral part of the fight against the disease. Any support, is of great importance to Oleksandr's family.
