From innocent symptoms to dramatic diagnosis
It all started in the summer of 2024. Enlarged lymph nodes appeared on Milosz's neck. At first it looked harmless, but detailed tests revealed stage IV lymphoblastic lymphoma, with metastasis to the bone marrow.
Milosz began intensive therapy consisting of intravenous and oral chemotherapy. The therapy was supplemented with steroids and lumbar punctures. Instead of the everyday life familiar to a teenager, there were hospital wards, procedures and a rigid treatment regime. Childhood had to come to a halt.
During treatment came very hard times. His body struggled with severe pneumonia and septicemia during a complete loss of immunity. At the time, he required oxygen and medications that counteracted neutropenic fever with body temperatures reaching 40°C.
When the body was losing strength, he did not lose hope
"Never lose hope.
It is the last key,
that opens the door."
This quote from the beloved Little Prince became Milosz's motto. This one sentence allowed him to survive the most difficult moments that came during his treatment. A lung infection and septicemia led to a life-threatening condition. Milosz required oxygen and drugs to counteract neutropenic fever, as his body temperature reached 40°C.
He was very weak, but he did not give up. He showed strength that no one expects from a 13-year-old.
Marrow clean, but fight continues
The ongoing therapy has given a positive result. The marrow is clean. However, chemotherapy treatment will continue and is scheduled to last until the end of February 2025, after which maintenance chemotherapy in tablets will be administered.
A childhood to reclaim
Before his illness, Milosz was constantly on the move. Sports, modeling, scouting in the Royal Rangers team. This was his world, which the disease took away from him. He, however, will return there! To his family, to his colleagues, to his passions.
Milosz takes another difficult step every day.
Hope keeps him on this path.
