When the body begins to speak in whispers
At first, everything seemed ordinary. Knee pain after a physical education lesson looked like a minor strain, like a signal to rest and give the body a break. Lubrication with ointment, a few days of recovery, painkillers - that was supposed to be enough. It brought relief, but only for a moment. Under the cover of this brief silence, hidden from everyone, a disease was developing that no one suspected at the time - Osteosarcoma G3, a malignant bone tumor characterized by rapid growth and a propensity for distant metastasis.
An operation that marked a life
On September 19, Maja was brought to the operating table to face her toughest test - doctors fought for her leg. During a five-hour operation , they removed twenty centimeters of the femur, the entire knee, replacing it with an implant.
It was a necessary decision, the only one of two ways to stop the progression of the disease. However, the price of this battle turned out to be enormous: long and painful rehabilitation, arduous learning to walk from scratch, daily life dominated by the pain and limitations on knee flexion brought on by the disease.
Chemotherapy and rehabilitation - a daily struggle
They have more months of treatment ahead. Chemotherapy is expected to destroy what might have appeared after the PET scan. At the same time, the girl exercises every day, struggling with pain that often squeezes out tears. Every step, every bend of her leg is an effort, but also a small step towards the hope that she will regain fitness and a normal life.
A family torn apart by hospital daily life
Since June, Mom has been living with Maja in "Cape of Hope." Daily life has been rearranged, and the family's world has turned upside down. An older brother has been left at home, whose relationship with Maja is strong, though limited to brief meetings and longing.
Dreams of a teenage girl
Maja is only 16 years old. She loves to draw, play on the computer, spend time with friends and take care of animals, especially her beloved cat Psotka. Illness has brutally interrupted her daily life, forcing her to live within hospital walls, away from what she loves most.
Why help is needed
Funds from the collection will help cover the costs of intensive rehabilitation, transportation, psychological support and daily treatment needs. It is these that can give Mai the chance to return to a life that today seems so distant.
