After a long, exhausting treatment, a bone marrow transplant, intensive chemotherapy, and months spent at Cape of Hope, she was able to ring the victory bell. Everyone believed that the worst was behind Maja.
Hope was short-lived
The news of the recurrence of acute myeloid leukemia was a blow. This time, the disease did not stop at the bone marrow, but attacked internal organs, including the eye, lungs, and intestines. It took on an exceptionally severe, aggressive, and treatment-resistant form.
Doctors have no doubt that the situation is dramatic. The disease has struck with renewed force, affecting areas that control breathing, vision, and basic life functions. Every day is a struggle to halt the progression of the cancer, to respond to treatment, to gain time.
