The diagnosis that interrupted everything
Five years ago, Magda received a diagnosis that brought everything to a halt. Colon cancer with metastases. Her passions, activities, and career plans had to wait. Her life, which until then had been running in a clearly defined direction, suddenly took a completely different turn and set a completely different goal—SURVIVAL!
The treatment began. There was an operation, and with it the hope that it would be enough to continue living. It was difficult to predict that this was only the first chapter of a much more difficult story.
Recurrence of the disease and a second operation
For a while, it seemed that the worst was over. Magda's body was slowly recovering, and subsequent follow-up visits raised cautious hope. All it took was a short break in treatment for the disease to make itself known again. The results deteriorated rapidly. The cancer had returned.
A second operation was required, which proved much more difficult and taxing. It was not possible to remove all the lesions. During the operation, an ileostomy was removed and two nephrostomies were inserted to relieve the burden on the weakened kidneys. Chemotherapy was turned on again.
This was the moment when Magda's life began to roll with a repetitive rhythm: chemo, tests, chemo, tests. Everyday life required more and more strength - physically and mentally.
Treatment exhausts the body and does not allow for recovery
Magda is today undergoing palliative chemotherapy. Every two weeks she goes to the hospital for several days of infusions. The treatment gives her no respite - it disrupts her appetite, weakens her body, and forces her to be increasingly careful. Parenteral nutrition has become a daily occurrence, as her body is no longer able to assimilate ingredients naturally.
Complications also arose - the need for frequent blood transfusions, dangerous drops in immunity, and even sepsis, which for a moment took away hope.
Independence and self-reliance had to give way to illness
Until recently, she was an active, independent person who organized her daily life on her own. Today, even the simplest things require planning, effort and support. The only form of movement her body allows is short walks - often paid for by fatigue. The pension does not cover the growing expenses. Medications, supplements, bandages, transportation to hospitals, and specialized nutrition are daily necessities that cost more than Magda can handle. Savings have run out, and the support of loved ones is not enough.
Travel dreams are still alive
Magda does not dream of great things. She would like to feel the warm sand under her feet again, to take a dip in the sea, to walk without pain, to hug the dog that is waiting for her at home.
Today, however, the dream above all others is to have a chance to continue treatment and live!
Magda has been through too much already. Every day she fights not only the disease, but also the limitations that life imposes on her.
Your support can give her something priceless - time, opportunity and continuity of therapy. Every zloty, every sharing, every good thought is a real help.
Let's not let this fight go on in silence and loneliness.
