Update
This is one of those updates where hope and fear are very close together.
February 10 Lucy underwent surgery to remove the tumor. The doctors managed to save her leg and implant an endoprosthesis in the entire femur. This is a huge success for the surgical team and a breakthrough in her treatment.
She began rehabilitation the day after the operation. On February 13, she stood up for the first time. A few days later, she took her first steps. For many, it is a routine activity. For Łucja, it was a moment that meant more than words can express.Unfortunately, When she was about to start her third cycle of chemotherapy, a serious complication arose. Extensive internal bleeding occurred. The situation was very serious.
The medical team at the Mother and Child Institute reacted immediately. Appropriate medication was administered. Plasma and blood were transfused. Chemotherapy was postponed.
If Lucy's condition stabilizes, the first post-operative chemotherapy will be administered in the near future.
This is a time of intense emotions. The joy of having her leg saved and taking her first steps is mixed with anxiety about the next stages of treatment. Łucja has already shown how much strength she has. Now she needs stability, time, and further support.
Thank you for being with her during these momentous times. March 4, 2026

It all started with pain in my leg.
On October 23 , 2025 , Łucja came home from school complaining of pain in her right leg. Two days later, the pain had not subsided. Before her acrobatics class, her mother looked at her leg and noticed swelling above her right knee. Her concern grew with each passing day. In early November, Łucja was admitted to the oncology ward at the Mother and Child Institute in Warsaw. There, she received a diagnosis that changed the life of her entire family: osteosarcoma—a malignant tumor in the femur of her right leg.
Treatment that requires tremendous strength
On November 4 , a bone biopsy was performed, and a few days later, on November 12, a vascular port was implanted so that chemotherapy could begin. Łucja is being treated according to the protocol for osteosarcoma—an aggressive MAP regimen. She has already completed her first cycle of chemotherapy (3 infusions), has started her second cycle, and has had her first infusion. The follow-up examination after the end of the first cycle brought the first good news—the tumor is calcifying, which means that the chemotherapy is working.
However, the treatment is very stressful. Łucja has lost her appetite, is vomiting, is weak, and requires constant care. Her blood test results are unstable. Between infusions, her body has a moment to regenerate, but each subsequent stage is a new challenge.A follow-up MRI scan is scheduled for mid-January. After completing the second cycle of chemotherapy , Łucja will undergo a very serious life-saving operation, i.e., resection of the tumor covering the entire femur shaft and implantation of a growing endoprosthesis. After the operation, intensive rehabilitation and another four cycles of chemotherapy will be necessary —a total of about 18 weeks of further treatment.
Additional health burdens
Lucy also has a congenital atrial septal defect (ASD II with left-to-right shunt), which requires periodic cardiological monitoring. This means that her cancer treatment must be carried out with even greater caution.
Living out of a suitcase and a family divided between two cities
The family lives and works in Wrocław, but cancer treatment takes place in Warsaw. Dad drives Mom and Łucja to chemotherapy, then returns to Wrocław to take care of Łucja's 13-year-old brother. During his absence, the boy's grandparents travel 150 kilometers to help the family. Mom has completely suspended her professional life to take care of Łucja. At home, this means checking blood counts every day (sometimes every 1-2 days), administering medication, ensuring hydration and proper nutrition, which is crucial in the treatment process. The parents are in constant contact with the attending physician and at the same time make sure that Łucja does not fall behind in school. The girl really wants to go back to school and see her friends.
Daily challenges that never end
Maintaining a healthy weight is a significant challenge— Łucja weighs only 21 kg—as is the long-term rehabilitation after surgery, which offers a chance for her to regain her health. Added to this are frequent, painful blood tests, marks on her veins, and the enormous emotional strain on the whole family. Her parents are also trying to carefully support their son, who is deeply affected by his sister's illness but is bravely trying to function normally.
Small dreams give great strength
Before her illness, Łucja was extremely active. Today, despite pain and fatigue, she still loves to create art and sensory art. Animals bring her great joy, especially her beloved hamster. She dreams of having a dog and of one day being able to run, exercise, and stand firmly on her own two feet again.
The funds raised will be used to cover: the costs of treatment away from home (transport between Wrocław and Warsaw, accommodation), rehabilitation after endoprosthesis implantation, orthopedic and rehabilitation equipment, psychological care, and non-reimbursable medications.
