Unassuming symptoms hid deadly threat

The girl was brought to the hospital ward with symptoms of infection. Persistent fever and malaise, however, were not the only worrying symptoms for the parents. They also repeatedly signaled about the changes they had noticed in her left eye. On the last day of hospitalization, a detailed diagnostic was ordered, the results of which froze the hearts of the entire family. With a suspicion of cancer, the two-year-old was referred to the oncology department.

The beginning of the battle

In oncology at the Zielona Gora hospital, the suspicions were confirmed. The next step was diagnostics at the Children's Health Center in Warsaw. There, cancer was also found in the right eye socket. Four cycles of general chemotherapy were administered. In June 2023, the parents heard good and bad news. The lesions in the right eye had regressed, but it was too late to save the left eye.

She lost her left eye and is struggling not to lose the other one

In August, another tumor was detected in the girl's right eye. An attempt to freeze it failed. It was necessary to restart chemotherapy. Fortunately, the treatment was successful and the tumor calcified. However, this is not the end of the fight for Lilianka's sight. It is necessary to monitor the condition of the healthy eye. In front of the parents the need to incur the cost of epiprostheses, physiotherapy, neurologist and dental treatment.
