RESUMPTION...
Despite a bone marrow transplant just four months ago, Leosia's leukemia has unfortunately returned. During follow-up tests on February 13 2% of blasts, or cancer cells, appeared in the peripheral blood. A few days later A bone marrow biopsy was performed, which confirmed that the disease had returned. The test result showed 19% blasts.Treatment was started immediately. Leoś received another round of chemotherapy and was again admitted to the intensive care unit. at the Cape of Hope Clinic.
A brief return home
Not long ago, the whole family hoped that the most difficult stage was behind them. On December 23, Leoś returned home after a bone marrow transplant. He spent Christmas and New Year's Eve with his parents and younger brother Tymon, who was his donor. Unfortunately, subsequent tests quickly showed that the disease had not gone away.Another treatment option
Leoś has been back in the hospital since February 23.He has several months of intensive treatment ahead of him. Doctors are planning the next cycles of chemotherapy and preparing for another bone marrow transplant. The search for a donor has already begun. This means more weeks of isolation and a very difficult time for the whole family. However, everyone believes that this stage of treatment will ultimately stop the disease. March 5, 2026Preparing for a transplant
On October 27, Leoś was transferred from the hematology ward to the transplant ward. at Cape of Hope. The time of preparation for bone marrow transplantation has begun, and a period of complete isolation, which was a huge physical and emotional burden for the five-year-old boy.14-month-old donor
Leosia's younger brother became the bone marrow donor. Tymon, who was only 14 months old at the time. The tests showed a 100% match. The transplant took place on November 5.Long weeks of isolation
After Leoś's transplant He spent 14 days in complete isolation, in a closed room. He spent the next 14 days in the post-transplant ward with his mother, still unable to go outside. It was a time of constant vigilance and enormous tension.Light at the end of the tunnel
Leoś is still in the hospital. with her mother. For a week now, there has been no need for blood transfusions, which is a very important and encouraging sign. The chimerism results show 100 percent, which means that the brother's bone marrow has taken hold. and is working properly. It has been 29 days since the transplant. The medications I am taking, although necessary, significantly lower my immunity. The first complication was DOV, fluid appeared in the abdominal cavity and the liver enlarged. Skin problems associated with the graft and cytomegalovirus infection are, unfortunately, further complications.Further research and uncertainty
On Wednesday, Leoś will be admitted to the hospital on Borowska Street. Under anesthesia, fluid will be drained from the lungs because infiltrates have appeared there. The test is designed to rule out fungal infection and accurately assess the situation. During the same procedure Doctors will also perform a bone marrow puncture because 6 percent of the disease is still present."We are grateful that Leoś has been fever-free for a week. At the same time, we know how quickly his condition can change, sometimes from hour to hour. It is a very difficult time, full of tension and vigilance. We are with Leoś constantly. We are fighting alongside him, step by step, holding on to the hope that each passing day brings him closer to stability and safety." - parents

Explore the history of
Little explorer
Leo is four years old and has an extraordinary energy that attracts people. He is smart, curious about the world, with a disarming sense of humor. He is happiest on his mother's sister's farm - among chickens, rabbits and big tractors. He loves soccer, bicycles and cars, which he looks out for with delight. Until recently, he was waiting to return to kindergarten after time spent in England. For this meeting with the children, he didn't make it.
An uneasy start
A summer full of activities brought Leosi's first visit to the circus - an event full of excitement, laughter and delight. Soon after, however, leg pain appeared, which was to be the beginning of a completely different story. At first there was talk of minor things, antibiotics were administered, but the anxiety, instead of disappearing, grew with each passing day. On top of that, other infections appeared - a finger, an ear, again a leg that hurt so much that he couldn't walk. Days passed in uncertainty until he ended up in the ED, from where he was transferred to "Cape of Hope."
The moment of diagnosis
The diagnosis sounded like an echo that finds no end - acute myeloid leukemia, subtype M4, secondary. The world, just moments before filled with ordinariness, suddenly died down and gave way to a road leading into the unknown.
Preparations for transplantation
Leoś has started chemotherapy and is being prepared for a bone marrow transplant. He still has two more cycles of treatment ahead of him, and then the transplant - the most important stage in this journey. Dad returned in a hurry to Poland to accompany his sick son. Leoś is also visited by his one-year-old brother, Tymon, whose presence brings a bit of laughter and normality to these days, so needed in a world dominated by the disease. The family knows one thing - every support, every gesture of kindness and good energy is a strength that helps them get through the most difficult moments.
