Update
Laura has begun the final stage of treatment before maintenance therapy
The girl has entered her second treatment protocol, which is the final stage before starting a year and a half of maintenance therapy. Although she is currently in remission, her daily life is still far from peaceful. Every day she bravely goes through tests, successive doses of chemotherapy and the entire treatment process, which puts a much heavier strain on her body than a few-year-old girl should have to experience.Side effects of treatment that affect everyday life
Laura is currently taking immunosuppressive drugs, which take a heavy toll on her body. After their administration, she feels weak and sleepy. The effects of chemotherapy exacerbate her muscle pains, which have intensified to the point that it is increasingly difficult for her to move independently. She spends part of her day in a wheelchair, which allows her to at least partially maintain the rhythm of daily life amid the restrictions imposed by the treatment. June 17, 2025
Explore the history of
It started with two innocent specks
On November 18, 2024, blue-red spots appeared on Laura's thighs. At first they did not seem dangerous, such a small thing - maybe a bump, maybe an allergy...Only instead of disappearing, the spots began to multiply, and Laura became more and more quiet, tired - somehow so different. After just one visit to the clinic, a referral was made to the pediatrics department, only to refer Laura to "Cape of Hope" in Wroclaw the next day.
It wasn't just a spot anymore - it was blood cancer
At the clinic, a word was said that froze everyone. Acute lymphoblastic leukemia - a malignant blood cancer that requires immediate treatment. Just moments earlier, Laura had been training in ballroom dancing, proudly displaying her gold medals.
She was preparing for another competition, not knowing that instead of the dance floor, she would end up in the oncology ward to fight for her life.
Instead of a dance floor - a treatment room
Laura underwent a bone marrow puncture, after which intensive steroid therapy was started. In a few days, the world stood on its head. Her colorful outfits were left in the closet, and instead of dancing, her body was learning to endure pain.
The treatment room became a daily occurrence. Two years of chemotherapy began - long, debilitating, full of side effects and days that offer no relief.
Longing
Laura misses. She misses tournaments, home and her little brother. Four-year-old Ignatius, a boy diagnosed with a disability on the autism spectrum, has a strong bond with Laura. Every day he asks a question his parents don't know the answer to - when will his sister return....
