Update

Recurrence of the disease and metastases! We are increasing the fundraising goal to PLN 100,000.
Karolina's latest research results bring very disturbing information. The need for further intensive treatment is becoming a reality. In connection with the planned specialized molecular tests and subsequent stages of therapy it is necessary to increase the fundraising target to PLN 100,000.
Test results and recurrence of the disease
A follow-up CT scan of the abdomen, chest, and pelvis revealed an alarming picture.

Less than five months after extensive surgery to remove the tumor along with half of her pelvis, Tests showed that the disease had returned at the site of the operation. Five new lesions were found in the pelvis, as well as metastases to the lungs.
Increasing pain and hospitalizations
Recently Karolina spent a week in the hospital in Jelenia Góra due to severe pain. Initially, their causes were thought to be possible postoperative complications. Visits to the hospital emergency room were also necessary. due to pain that could not be controlled at home. Today, it is known that the cause of suffering is the recurrence of the disease at the site of the operation.

The pain remains very severe. After a private consultation at a pain management clinic New drug treatment has been started, but the pain continues to increase.
Consultations and plan for further treatment
We are awaiting the opinion of the oncology team in Szczecin regarding the next line of treatment. On February 27, an oncology consultation was held with the participation of the National Institute of Oncology in Warsaw, devoted to further therapeutic procedures.

In Szczecin, the possibility of incorporating radiotherapy is currently being evaluated. To this end, documentation from proton therapy completed six months ago in Krakow was submitted for analysis to assess whether re-irradiation of the lesions would be possible.

The thoracic surgeon consulting Karolina declared his readiness to surgically remove the lesions in her lungs. emphasizing the need for earlier treatment of pelvic tumors. The procedure will be possible after systemic treatment has begun. At this stage, the pelvic lesions are inoperable.

After consulting with the professor who had previously performed Karolina's surgery, Private molecular testing of the tumor using Exacta is planned. This test may enable the precise selection of targeted therapy.

The cost is PLN 25,000.
Thank you for being with Karolina and accompanying her on this journey.
The recurrence of the disease and metastases mean that immediate action must be taken and further costly stages of treatment must be implemented. Karolina, who is currently on disability, is unable to bear the growing costs of therapy on her own. This is a moment when time is of the essence.

Please continue to help and share the fundraiser. Together, we can give her the chance to receive the treatment she urgently needs right now. March 2, 2026
Pain has become the main problem.
The last few weeks have seen a marked deterioration in Karolina's health. Treatment is ongoing, but the situation requires further decisions and intensive hospital care.
Karolina's mother can best describe what the current situation looks like.
"For a moment, things got better. There was joy from the very slow but steady progress of rehabilitation and positive CT scan results. Treatment continues, as do oncology checkups every three months, implant checkups, and rehabilitation.
Unfortunately, we are once again struggling with immense pain. After extensive surgery to remove a tumor, an osteosarcoma, Karolina suffers every day. Doctors suspect that the cause is numerous postoperative adhesions that irritate her nerves.
Even the strongest painkillers don't help. She had to go back to the emergency room again and again. Karolina is currently in the hospital. The doctors decided to do a nerve block. It's still unclear if it'll help.
The scale of the previous operation was so large that during the procedure, doctors had enormous difficulty locating the nerves. They admitted that they rarely encounter such a difficult case and such extensive adhesions.
Watching your own child suffer is an experience that is very difficult to cope with. If the current treatment does not help, we will be forced to seek help from other specialists, even in distant places. This means more trips, tests, medications, and costs that we cannot afford on our own.
Thank you for all your support, for being here, and for being with us at this time."

When the body cries out for help

In June 2024, Karolina began experiencing severe pain in her low back, radiating into her leg. Her primary care physician suspected sciatica. For three months, she tried to function despite the pain, but no treatment improved. Increasingly, pain attacks ended with emergency room intervention and the administration of fentanyl and morphine, which soothed the suffering, but only momentarily. In October, after a private consultation with an orthopedist, things took a dramatic turn.

The doctor immediately referred Karolina for an urgent pelvic MRI. The result revealed an inoperable lesion ten centimeters long and pointed the suspicion toward bone cancer.

A biopsy performed at the National Institute of Oncology in Warsaw left no illusions. The diagnosis was unequivocal: stage IV osteosarcoma, a malignant tumor of the sacroiliac bone.

Treatment without end

A treatment plan was immediately implemented. For six months, Karolina received aggressive chemotherapy on the MAP regimen - the so-called red chemotherapy, with the addition of methotrexate. Three weeks of infusions, two weeks at home and back to the hospital again. This cycle repeated relentlessly, leaving more and more havoc in the body. Vomiting, fainting, tachycardia, neuropathy, oral fungus and blood results balancing on the edge of endurance were the price she had to pay for each new day of her battle.

A follow-up examination was performed in May 2025. The tumor had not shrunk. So the decision was made to implement the next stage of treatment - proton therapy in Krakow. Thirty-five irradiations, conducted from June 9 to August 5, brought a moment of hope, but also another wave of suffering. Burns, weakness, nosebleeds and infections requiring antibiotic therapy became part of daily life. The tumor shrank only slightly.

Six weeks after the end of therapy , Karolina was taken to Szczecin, where she underwent a sacrectomy - an extensive operation to remove the tumor along with the sacrum and hip bones. The infiltration also included nerves, which consequently, also had to be removed. 3D-engineered endoprostheses were inserted to replace the resulting defect.

Today Karolina is immobilized from the waist down. She is waiting for the result of a histopathological examination and a decision on further treatment.

The body has forgotten what peace is

Cancer has mercilessly left its mark. The side effects of treatment return constantly, as if the body has no right to a moment's rest. Tachycardia, neuropathy, severe joint pain, premature menopause and debilitating weakness have become a daily routine in which every little gesture requires heroic effort.

For a year now , Karolina has been traveling thousands of kilometers between hospital wards in Warsaw, Krakow, Szczecin, Zielona Gora and Wroclaw. In each of these journeys, she is accompanied by her mother - always present, alert, ready to bear any burden.
This presence has become her strength in the face of the loss of everything that gave joy, and the fear of what is yet to come. Despite the tremendous support that comes from many quarters, there are days when strength runs out. That's when the need for a conversation arises - the help of a psycho-oncologist, which allows one to rediscover breath, peace and faith in the words that Karolina repeats like a promise: "I am tough. I won't give up."

Support in treatment and rehabilitation

Cancer treatment is not just hospital rooms and tests. It's a daily routine filled with costs for medications, travel to distant centers, overnight stays, private visits, rehabilitation and psychological care.
Karolina is only twenty-five years old. She was just beginning her adult life when the disease took away her independence. Today, every day is a struggle not only with pain, but also with expenses that are beyond this young woman's means.

When the body struggles, any help becomes breath.
